Question Tr-3650 Grind Into Second; Clunk On Load / Unload

I have read many problems bout the TR3650's Grinding into second gear. Ford Put out A TSB for cars build before, 09/05? My car was built after that.

I am having these problems

1) On a Moerately heavy, quick shift into second, it seems to snag second gear. I beleive this to be a damaged synchro and / or blocker.
Any one have any experience with this?

2) The Main concern. While coasting, under load Acceleration, or Load decelerating, I feel clicking from the shifter. Also, if i whack the gas and let it load and unload quickly, it feels like a worn U Joint. A load, defenitive clunk. If i quickly shock-load the transmission in reverse, it makes a nasty clunk. I have complained to ford 6000 miles ago that this transmission was making a scraping, whining type noise, whcih has since gone away with the use of a pro 5.0 and Roal Purple Synchromax oil. As for the noise, i am sure It is from the transmission- Jacked the car up, and rotatied the tires with the trans in 1st. Alotta of clanking noise coming from the trans.

Any one with any experience with this? Broken or damaged coutnershaft maybe? let me no

matt

1) If the car is still under warranty, then have the dealer check it out.

2) The S197's drivetrain has a lot of freeplay in it. Clunking sounds are normal when letting out the clutch, and loading and unloading the drivetrain.

I understand there should be some free play. but, this, is a unreasonable amount, and it has just started out of the blue. It was almost confused for a very bad U Joint, or, excessive rear end backlash.

Also, you can feel Abnormal Vibrations, Popping, and clicking type feelings coming out of the shifter. The shifter sort of floats around, and feels as if its going to push it self out of gear. Just wondering, if any one has ever had this problem.
I no these are problematic units.

i wouldnt go so far as to say they are problematic. they are actually pretty reliable and tough, which is why ford has kept using them. however, they are clunky and no where near smooth. i have had "second gear clunk" since mine was new and the whine through 1st gear was there in the beginning too.... she responds well when i really bang the gears though, and that is what is most important to me....

one another note, ive often wondered that it may be more the hydraulic clutch or the remote mounted shifter than it is the tranny itself.... (second gear clunk that is, sometimes i get it in third too..) i know quite a few of the "new edge" guys that havent had any problems...

now as far as the grinding, thats not good, makes me think bad syncro, id be discussing that with the dealer.

Stock drivetrain does have an excessive amount of slop to it to prevent damage. The driveshaft is the biggest culprit.
