Help with fitting my shift knob on my 2007 Mustang GT

Heres my situation.I have a 2007 Mustang GT 5-speed manual with a 12mm x1.25 thread pattern on the shifter. I purchased a Hurst Classic style shift knob stupidly in a 12mm x 1.75 thinking at the time thats what the correct size was(also after contacting Hurst i found out they do not make a shift knob to fit the newer Mustangs yet). So not being the correct size i went out to Car Quest and i bought 12mm x 1.25 helicoils, i didnt opt for the kit being that it was just about $100.00 and i didnt want to spend 3 times the shift knobs cost on trying to make it fit to me thats just silly lol. So anyway to make a long story short the Helicoils that i bought do not tell me the drill size or tap size....so i was wondering if anybody knows what the correct size would be. Thanks in advance!!!

10.8 mm or 27/64 is the drill size for a 12 X 1.25 tap.

thank you but thats not what i needed....i got 12mmx1.25 helicoil meaning the inside measurement of the coil is 12mmx1.25....and i need to know the drill size and tap size so i could drill out the knob and then tap it to the outside diameter of the coil

Ok got ya.....I don't have any size charts for Helicoils, why don't you call a machine shop that works on engines, they'll have a chart showing what size hole you need to drill.

I've got a crazy suggestion. Buy the Hurst Shifter and get the knob, the chome stick and a shorter, more precision throw.

You will need the heli-coil tap in order to install the helicoil.

I also have the MGW shifter and purchased the optional 3/8 x 16 shaft for aftermarket knobs and purchased a red one from MRT. They carry various knobs similiar to the hurst that are threaded for OEM.

MRT does have various knobs for the stock thread (12mm x 1.25)

This is my set p on my MGW shifter with the optional shift shaft 3/8 x 16) using the MRT knob. With this shaft it has some Aluminum shaft exposed.

IIRC, my Steeda shifter has 12mm x 1.25 thread and my Hurst T-handle has 12mm x 1.75 thread. It threads on fine.
