Bent exhaust vs straight

hey guys so i have a question. Now i might use the wrong terms here but on my exhaust, at the end, it is bent towards the ground. This is how i bought the car. Is there any advantage in having it like this instead of a straight end ? Also if someone can tell me the official word for this exhaust tip i would appreciate it

That's just what it is, exhaust tip. The curved ones only deflect the exhaust gases from the bumper/rear valance. If your "replaced" exhaust pipe is too short, you could get exhaust gases blown into the trunk area or against a fiberglass/plastic rear air dam.

It's called turn down exhaust.
I've heard that it increases noise on classic hot rods by bouncing the exhaust tones off the street.
I didn't realize Till now you can get them for late model rides.
The only advantage would be sound, not performance.
The 05-09 GTs are not that loud to begin with.
All that matters is do you like it. Does it sound good to you?
Curious, what's the rest of your exhaust set up.

08 GT 5spd
Spectra CAI, Comp Cam Detroit Rockers, Kooks headers w/catted H-pipe, Revolution Automotive dyno tuned, FB430 race mufflers, 3.55s, JLT catch can, BMR Lca's and relo brackets. Prothane motor mounts and sway bar bushings.
20% tint, smoked markers and tail lights w/sequentials. Clear front signal covers, series 3 chin spoiler.

unfortunately i can't answer that, i got this car second hand and this is the exhaust it came with. to me it sounds good i really like it but then again it's my first "loud car" had a ford fiesta before so i haven't heard many mustangs to compare

Post a picture, turn downs have nothing to do with sound. It deflects the exhaust away from the body.

You should be able to cut off the existing tips and install new ones. Many of the aftermarket tips come with clamps to attach them, or you can purchase them at auto supply stores. I had mines tack welded at a local shop for $40.

A photo of your existing set up would help us.

Looks like there's no bumper cut outs and that's why you have turn down tips, straight tips would melt the bumper

yeah I was not sure from the angle of the photo, but it does look like the exhaust cut-outs are missing . . . that is a new one on me, I did not know the bumper cover was available like that; and it does look like straight tips would hit

so now that you mentioned it i went back and took more photos, the cut outs are there but perhaps not deep enough ?

I think those are the "normal" cut-outs and should clear straight tips.

If you look directly from the rear, as if you were looking straight up the pipe if it came out straight without the curve, you should be able to see if they will clear. i do not see this angle in the photos you posted.

hm strange that the previous owner opted for turn down tips. either way i guess they can be cut off and new ones can be welded on right ?
