Ford OEM Navigation install questions for 2006 Mustang GT

I've been considering installing an OEM Navigation system in my 2006 GT but haven't been able to find too much information about them other than that I can get them on ebay for about $500. Other than buying the unit itself and the antenna what else do I need? I hear they have to be reprogrammed for your car does anyone have any idea how much that costs and do I need a different wiring harness? Is this something that can be done easily yourself?

if i got a nav system, it would be this system. I knwo it doesn't have all the features as some of the after market ones, but i love the clean OEM look on my interior

I'm not sure the Ford system will be able to work with an 06 wiring harness since it was not an option until 07. Check with the dealer to find out. You will lose your 6 disc changer if you go with the Ford system.

In an interstellar burst, I'm back to save the universe.

I would just by one of those universal garmin ones that are half the price and just mount it when you need it then store it away when you don't.

No you don't lose the six disc changer. It is still there, behind the screen, as well as the +1 disc for the navigation. so a total of seven disc holder. Only thing you lose is, if you have the shaker 1000, you dont have hook ups for the rear subs in the trunk.

Stock for now. Two GT take off muffler, connected to a GT H-pipe.Upgrade instrument cluster. Shorty antenna. GT rear bumper. GT side skirts. GT front and rear sway bars. So many GT parts, and still a V6 engine. Damn. 18 inch Deep Dish Black rims, with polish lip. 255 front, 275 rear, soon changed to 285.

Hey Alcapwned, I did this in my 08 GT/CS. The experience was an easy one. First , make sure you buy from a reputable person since you don't want a brick NAV system. You will need the Nav DVD, which can be bought or also can come with your NAV unit depending on who is selling.

You will also need the unit to be reprogrammed, again a come with sale or you can have it done by a dealer(I pressume) or also by a service on ebay or local. They will tell you all the info that they need from your car. Since your car is 06, you will need the FM antenna adapter for the unit. I believe that 07 and 08 does not need this adapter.

The hardest part of it all is getting the middle console and dash out. Also the air conditioning connections are a PITA to take out. I hope I answered your questions, works great for me

I would buy a better aftermarket Nav system with more options and they look just a clean. I have the Eclipse AVN 5510, it looks great and works great.

Steeda CAI W/93 SCT Tune, Steeda CMDP, Steeda UDP, Steeda LCA, Steeda UCA, Steeda Sport Springs, Steeda Panhard Bar & Brace, Steeda Hood Strut Mounts, Steeda adjustable Camber Plates, Tokico D-Specs, G2 Painted Calipers,Sequentail Tail Lights, Magnaflow Free-Flo Cats W/Exhaust, Homelink Self Dimming Rear Veiw Mirror W/ Garage Door Opener, Compass & Temp, Eclipse AVN 5510 Head Unit W/ Nav, Chrome BBK Plenum Cover and various Dress-up Items.
