Shaker/Ram air question

Everybody says you don't get any more hp from a shaker hood scoop, but wouldn't you get the added hp, if any, while you are driving with the air being forced into the scoop as you drive, and you woundn't see any benifit while on a dyno?

They do provide a little cool air but it certainly isn't anything dramatic. To realize a true ramair effect, you'd need a scoop about 12" above the laminar flow.

Also, the air is being forced to make a 180 turn to actually go into the engine, I think. Most estimates I've heard are around 2HP added. But they do look cool!

the older cars with it had the airflow hitting that spot and then straight down the carb the new ones have better aireodynamics(pardon the speelling)so the air does not flow near the scoops

but i love them

Yes, Ram Air is more cosmetic and a retro touch, than a mechanical improvement. They do work as a cold air intake and work better than an inner finder air intake because of the direct airflow and the air isnt "scavanged" from the front bumper. If you are thinking of getting one, do it for style not HP. Besides there is nothing like slamming the gas and seeing the shaker slam over to the side. Makes me feel like its the 60s again, when muscle was king!
