First pass in the new car

Yep, tommorrow will be the first time the new car has been to the track. Another forum I'm on (Musclecar Evolution) has rented Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA. Me and a few buddies are driving the 4 hours down there and see what's up. This track is really good, much better than Atlanta Dragway up here in north Georgia. I ran 12.90s in my other car here last year but I it had 4.10s so I'm hoping my new car will at least get low 13s with 3.31s. We'll see guess!

Gas mileage was unaffected. 22 mpg or so in mixed driving and 28 in the long drive down to the track this morning. I ran consistent 13.70s and one 13.68 at the 103.5-104 mph range. The car hooked great but I couldn't keep it from bogging with the 3.31 gears. I did spank another S197 GT 5 out of 5 times that had intake, headers, exhaust, Motherthumper cams, tune and drag radials. He couldn't drive or the car just wasn't performing. It trapped a 106 but the ET wasn't there. He was ill.

I wasn't going 80 when I got the 28 mpg. Probably averaged about 60. Gas mileage starts dropping fast after that. I would probably get 22 or at 80 also.

My best luck with factory tires is lower the pressure a little. Nothing extreme, around 20-25 psi. Go around the water and back into the burnout box. Dump the clutch and spin the tires for a split second. Maybe let them make 3-5 revolutions. This will clean any grit off of them and heat them some. With 3.31s, traction isn't the problem as much as bogging down is. With 4.10s, it didn't bog and I would quickly but smoothly release the clutch, don't dump it or drag it out. With this basic outline, I've pulled 1.9x 60 foot times on factory all season tires.
