Not sure what to do..... pic included

So i have a black stripe over the back of my car which ive had since i got it. I am sick of it and no longer like it, its been on since 2008. I was planning to take it off on a hot day as it is only vinyl. If i take it off will the color difference be significant where it will not look good or even be noticeable? I wanna put a black decklid panel on the car, but the stripe has to go.. What should i do? anyone ever take racing stripes off or anything and have a color differential?

All you need to do is use a hair dryer to heat the decal so the glue will loosen. Don't over heat it and you'll be fine. You most likely not notice any color difference. You can pick up some bug and tar remover from Wal-Mart or an auto parts store to take care of any leftover glue.

I think the stripe looks good. Black accents on grabber orange is awesome. And from the looks of the pictures, you have boss stripes too. I like it personally. But as said before, removal is easy. When I removed my factory side stripes, they just peeled off. No residue or anything. But if they're tough, a hair dryer or heat gun helps. And then some goo gone gets the residue. However, WASH YOUR CAR IF YOU USE GOO GONE. This stuff stays on forever. In fact, it's why my boss stripes are peeling. They stuff stayed on the car and ate the adhesive on the stripes.

I see your from NY as I am, do you store your stang for the winter and is it garage kept? If so then your more likely to not have a color change.
If the stang has been a DD since new or been in the weather a-lot your probably gonna see a difference. The suns UV Rays will likely have lightened the paint to some degree. But since we live in NY and not in a place like CA or FL or TX where it gets HOT and there's a-lot of sun to fade the paint then you just may get lucky. The only way to tell is to look under the stripe.
Good Luck
They sell a product called "Goo Gone" it works great on getting off the left over glue.

I did like the stripe with the grabber orange but i liked the decklid panel more. Not sure what to do now. Fordlover i dont garage it i use it as a dd but as you know sometimes winters here can be bad therefore i do cover it and wont drive it but i dont have the garage space for it. I would look under the stripe but once you do that it wont go back on correctly or ud have to take it off than? i mean i dont wanna just take a fifty fifty shot and be wrong and have it look horrible..

Well when I removed my factory stripes last year, I could see a small amount of discoloration. What was under the stripes was brighter in color.

I don't think it will be much of an issue due to the location and how small the decal is.

If it shows some noticeable discoloration just re install another stripe. I don't think it will have any discoloration since it's on the rear. If it was on top of the car I would say it would. You'll be fine, do it! Let us know how it comes out

Just do it. Chances are it'll be a little darker in color and will probably shine a little better there. But I can guarantee you that you'll be the only one who can even see it. If it's horrendous you put a stripe back or get a new car. It's an 08, your due for an upgrade anyway. Tell your wife I said it's ok.

How much you drive your car and whether you garage it are big factors.
