Emissions Tests in Texas?

Do we have emmissions test in Texas? If so when do we get them checked? If not, does that mean I can get an off-road exhaust system?

Yes, there is an emissions test in TX. I just got mine done. They will check it when you get your regular veh inspection.

It is county specific, not state wide. Check your county on line at the TxDOT web site.

2005 GT Premium, torch red, all available factory options.
Performance mods: Lets just say it's not stock.

Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

This IntelliTXT stuff sucks.

I know Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin, as well as surrounding counties have emissions tests. There isn't one where I live. Just a heads up though... it is a federal crime to tamper with the emissions system of your car, which includes the cats. On top of that, the state vehicle inspection includes the exhaust. If your cats are missing, and the tech is doing his job, your car will fail. My .02

ask around tuning shops

Agree with the above, emissions are indeed controlled in Texas. However, I left the vehicle into a shop for some work in Harris County and most of the installs they do are non-cat i.e. not legal. Basically they said they were able to get around it. As someone stated its a crime, I wont name the garage, but I think if you ask around garages who specialise in tuning (you could even try a Chevy specialist) you may find a way to get it through inspection.

Some of the vehicle inspections in some states, such as Texas, are a joke. I can remember a few occassions in particular. I'm driving down Montana St. in El Paso following an old Toyota beater with smoke spewing out his exhaust, no tail lights, no brake lights, smashed windshield, and who knows what else. I pass him up and look at his windshield and there sits a brand new shiny inspection sticker. When I was stationed there I had a 67 Chevelle that needed some work on those annoying little things like no emergency brake cable, windshield wipers weren't great, a few other little things. I knew a garage that would charge me $2 for every item. I'd pull in and he'd say "What's wrong this time?" As long as I was honest with him he'd charge me the $5 (at the time that's all it cost) plus $2 for every item wrong. I'd normally get out for $9.
