Probably the most stupid question ever asked

O.k, I know I've been on this site quite some time....Now don't laugh.....
What does the S197 actually stand for? I know it refers to the '05 & '06 mustangs. But what does it actually stand for?
I've never heard the technical answer.
O.k.......let the kicking of the ballz commence

Probably what Ford named the project biulding this line of Mustangs. I have heard prev. generation call fox body. Just my guess, but definitely not a stupid question.

Kinda like the Corvette. The current one is called a C6, taking over the C5.

Ordered 4/26/05. Picked up June 11, 2005. 05 Mustang GT Premium Coupe, 5spd, Performance White, with red accent leather (ICAP), Shaker 500, IUP, active alarm, side airbag, spoiler delete. MODS: Baltimore Street Mods 10' red stripes and red rocker stripe. window tint. K & N aircharger. Pony Package fender emblems. Added 18" Polished Alum. Bullitts Hurst comp shifter

The quirky names are used from the factory to denote the platform build of a car. The fox was used for more that just a Mustang. Let me see if I can remember, Capri, Fairmont/Zepher, Marquis, LTD, Lincoln MKVII....hmmm I think im missing one. S197 was used from 1994 until 2004 I believe. Some correct me here.

SN95 was the previous version. S197 started in 05.

2005 GT Premium, torch red, all available factory options.
Performance mods: Lets just say it's not stock.

Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

This IntelliTXT stuff sucks.

Well, I am glad I'm not the only one who did not know. I was "Googling" for a while until I decided to just post the question.
But I was just curious as to why the specific "S" and "197" !
Did an engineer just throw a dart and a board of letters and numbers???

From the books I've read, the "S" stood for Sporty. Lee Iacocca coined the term back in the early 60's. The code name for the Mustang back then was "Small Sporty".
Along a similar note, do you know why they called it the "Fox" platform.
In the late '70's the Mustang's closest rival was the VW Rabbit (How I'll never know). And what catches a rabbit? A fox! Of course, the second generation was the Fox-4, because the Fox platform went through a major overhaul in 1994.
Just a bit of trivia from my Mustang library.

'05 Sonic Blue GT w/ '07 V8 engine, 5-sp, IUP, Beige leather interior, nothing else -
just the way I wanted it. (1 of 113)
OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.
