chrome tips burning off bumper paint

Went to the muffler shop to have a pair of mangaflow dual wall tips put on the stock mufflers. The guy stated the 4inch tips are to close to the cut outs and he has had a couple come back with burned bumper paint. What do you guys think?

No problem with mine at all. Take a look!

I don't get the relation? The 4" versus the 3.5" are not much closer, there is still exhaust coming in contact with the rear bumper as it exits. 0.5" is not gunna make any difference.

I think the two are unrelated, but thats just my opinion. Plenty of people have 4" tips with no problems.

Were the V6's with 4" tips?

My flowmasters have 4 inch tips. I've had them on for about 10 months with no problems.

I have 4 inch tips on flow masters as well. 4500 miles with no issues.

I don't tihnk any1 has had this issue on these boards that i have heard of. IMHO, has to do with something else....car exhaust doesnt corrode paint. If it did, whenever some car is idling in one place, every1 would have corroded paint on their bumber

Yup... MACs have been on since I got the car with zero probs. If the guy at the shop was saying that the heat from the tips was ruining the paint then maybe he hasn't been hanging them right.

Just a thought.

Snack.:thumbsup

if the tips are touching the bumper that is probably the problem as opposed to the exhaust gas itself

Same with the Flows here, no issues. Have felt them after a nice cruise and they sure do get toasty.

I just checke my Bassanis, they are 2.5 inches from the bumper. I would think that there would be a problem if it was related to heat. I also have three coats of clear coat on top of the paint. I don't know, but I think that the clear would also show some heat stress (discoloration, cracking) if heat was an issue...

I didn't know Bassani made a Cat-Back muffler system. They do?
