Which is the best radar detector out there? I liked the looks of the Valentine One, but I have no idea

Mine is the Escort Passport 8500 X50. Real good unit. Saved me a few tickets so far. One thing I learned though is if you are the only one on the road you might get a ticket unless you can get her whoa'd under the ticket speed in short order.

What I like is the power cord has a red light that flashes when a signal is detected. Also has a button to mute the sound from the detector. You at least can then tell how strong the signal is by how fast the flashing is.

Valentine One - best combination of features and performance.

I have been using a Whistler 3000 for about 3 years. It has saved my butt many times. I have gotten an alert as far away as 2 miles. It will also pick up radar reflections from cars at the top of an overpass. It has the VG-2 detector mode. In Florida, I don't think the HP, Sherrif's office or local police use those devices.

I have the Passport 8500 X50 as well, and man does that thing rock! I had it hardwired into my car... there are no exposed wires, it turns on when I start up the car (as well as turns off when I shut down), and I mounted the mute button flush on the console near the shifter to allow me to simply move my hand a few inches to mute the noise. Pretty sweet setup indeed....

The Valentine One has won every review since it came out.
NOT TRUE !!

Lately the Escort have won as much! Especially if youconsider the price (~200 less?)

It depends on who advertises in the mag doing the test. Look on-line for a few independent tests, I did and went with the Escort.

PS. They're both made here in Cinci and we 'locals' get kinda a deal on them...

Valentine 1 is the best. I have tried several over the years and the directional arrows are awesome. Range is great too! The only thing I wish it had was an auto mute feature after 3 clicks like the passport. Instead you manually have to press the mute button. Other than that it has saved me at least 25 times in several years.

Buy a Valentine if you want it to go off on every Safeway or Home Depot you pass (meaning constantly). If you want a quiet RD that has the best filtering then I recommend you go with Bel or Escort. I have the Beltronics RX-65. It rarely beeps unless there is a true threat. It's also ready for the Ku band that may be coming soon to a precinct near you. (Note: the Bel RX-65 and the Escort X50 have the same internal electronics so buy the one that looks the best or has the display you like.)
