Where do I get a tap for 12mmx125mm?

I want to drill/tap out an older shift knob so it will fit the new Mustang. Obviously my hardware store doesn't carry anything to do this.

Yes, they have taps but in an amazingly limited number of sizes.

Where can I get a tap for this. If this is not feasable I will have to head to one of our machine shops and see if they can do it for me.

2006 Black, GT, spoiler delete, five speed, leather, custom welded straight pipes with resonators, sequential turn signals, Hurst Pro Performance shifter. FRPP 4.10s with Motive bearing kit, Spydershaft one piece aluminum driveshaft, w/ Spicer 1330 U-joints, Steeda UCA and LCAs, chrome moly panhard rod. bye bye wheel hop, hello traction! SCT XCalII, BBK CAI, ZEX 100 shot.
I've written a book or two. Google David Buschhorn to laugh at my scribblings.

Try www.hardwarestore.com .
Metric threads are delineated by diameter, in your case 12mm, and pitch (number of threads per mm) which is most likely 1.25. That's our equivalent of a coarse thread. Given that, you would be ordering a 12mm x 1.25 pitch tap. Be sure you have enough meat in your shifter handle to cut new threads. Also, as cheap insurance go to the hardware store and buy a 12mm x 1.25 nut, just to double check the fit. I'd hate to order a 1.25 tap and find out it's a fine thread 1.50 pitch. The tap you're looking at should only cost about $6.50 plus shipping. If you don't have a tap handle, try a vise-grip. A tap handle would be better as you have less a chance of cross cutting the thread.

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.
