120 mile commute with GT

I'll be starting a new job with a round trip commute of 120 miles. At least 100 miles are highway. I use my GT as a daily driver and have gotten 24+ mpg on the highway and 16+ in town. Anybody else putting that kind of mileage on the stang?
I hope to get another car before long so I don't kill the stang.

I do a 70 mile round trip every day, I'm getting 24.5 mpg. I only drive it on nice days though.

I can't bring myself to to put alot of miles on
my GT..only 3200 in 3 months. We live a
minimum of 50 miles from good shopping and
Costco. 100 + miles from Phoenix. So I try to keep
the miles down as much as possible.
My daughter on the other hand has a 2005 Cadillac
CTS and has over 12,000 miles on it in the last 8
months.
I would and want to buy a little car like a geo (i know haha)
for commuting hey they get around 40-50 mpg.
Just a thought. Good luck on the new job!

Can life get any better????

I have an 06 Explorer and 05 F250 that I can use on bad weather days. I love driving the GT and will keep it on the road as much as possible. I started looking at small used cars that get better gas mileage and will last a few years.

I thought about that too, but are you going to save enough in gas to outweigh the cost of another car :/

It is definitely more practical to run the stang. I'd still have to spend $$$ for another car + make payments on the stang. Even if I got something with 60mpg, I'd still be in the hole. I plan to keep the stang indefinitely. If anything goes on it, I'll have a legit excuse to replace with mods.

I have a 200 mile round trip for work and I put over 27,000 miles on my 05 GT. With my new 06 GT I now drive my Focus to work and my Stang is used on the weekends. The gas prices just got to much for me to use my Stang as daily driver. Right now I only have about 450 miles on her.

200 miles round trip! I thought 120 was insane. How do you do it? 120 for me will be about 2-3 hours a day driving (if there's no accidents, construction, storms...). At least I'll be going opposite the traffic. Its all relative. I'd rather be driving 1 1/2 hours on an open road doing 65+ as opposed to sitting 1 1/2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic.

How's the Focus on gas?

I've got a 95 Gt. Just last week i made a trip out to Illinois, it's about a 400 mile trip each way. At the first gas stop i had averaged 27 mpg which is my highest ever. It was through really cool rainy weather. When i hit hot dry heat with temps in upper 90's my gas mileage dropped to 21 On the trip back i averaged 23 and 24 mpg... And yes thats with my 3.73's installed I think with some tweaking of my tune for highway i could do a good bit better

My commute is 365 miles each way to work (a mini Cannonball Run once a week).

I bought my GT so I didn't have to sit in an econobox for 6 hours at a time. You only live once.

I'm sorry but this is waaaay too far to travel one way. Save your stang, but hey cars are meant to be driven BUT this is a stang so treat her like a lady not just like some car of yours. So i guess I can understand but keep in mind the words of the young basicstang.

'01 with 64,000 miles only that high b/c I drive from DC to ATL to & from school on holidays!

PLEASE !! Post in the correct forum, this is NOT tech!

I got my car to commute... I get just less than 18 MPG... to me it's worth it, I enjoy my 40 minutes each way... a piece of heaven and the occational race before and after work...

KJ, poorer but happier

How's the Focus on gas?
I've been doing it now for over 10 years. It's mostly highway and about 1hr45min each way. I work a 4 10 hour days so I get many 3 day weekends. That is my saving grace. I as well travel away from the main traffic so unless there is an accident, so on so on so on its a quite ride. I do about 75mph most of the way. The Focus I get about 31mpg. I fill up twice a week adveraging $38 per fill up. Had to learn to budget and cut out some eatting out for lunch. I would rather be in my Stang though.

***** Christ! I do like 20 miles each way and it's killing me. The traffic bottles up in two spots, but I found a way around it that NOBODY uses. Literally, after 2 weeks of going left at a light instead of straight, I've seen like 12 cars on the road. Beautiful.

I'm moving waaaaaay close to work in November, so I'll be happy. Might get to the point where I only have to gas the stang once a week.
