Yeah, I must be a rich M.F. with my two Porsches. (Total cost of the two cars together: $9,000, ages 20 years and 30 years.)

I bought my Mustang because it drives well, has good power, is comfortable for my back (I'm 24 and have back problems, sue me), and I like the lines. I didn't buy it because I felt some need to be part of some community. I'm already part of a larger community. I like cars, period. I like MG's, I like Porsches, I like Mustangs, I like Camaros, I like Corvettes, I like the old Thunderbirds, and I like a thousand other different cars. I don't feel this need for constant validation from other people with whom I have nothing in common other than that we chose the same car.

If you stop me at the gas station or something, I'm more than happy to BS about cars for a few minutes if I have the time. If I waved at every other Mustang on the road though, I'd never have time to have my hands on the wheel or to pay attention to the road. When I'm driving, I'm driving. Taking concentration off the road is an invitation to have bad things happen. Maybe I've just done too much track racing and have that mentality ingrained, but waving to everyone else just isn't high on my priorities.

Besides, 9 out of 10 times when someone in another Mustang works to get my attention he wants to race. The 1 time out of 10 that they just want to wave isn't worth engaging the other 9 idiots, so it's just easier all around to ignore everyone.

But sadly not everybody seems to understand that. Recently, I'm been driving next to mustang drivers (not for too long just happen to be next one) and I try to look at the guy/girl, looking for that "we are so cool" look in the eye, but NO, they just look straight as if you're not there, and I know I've got a sweet lookin ride so I expect eye complements but NO, there aren't any. So what's happenin, I thought mustang drivers are 'COOL'. Most of these guys with the serious looks are oldies, I'm 21 and I'm neither a reckless driver nor a stupid lookin teenager but why all the seriousness?

hey man it is always like that I there are threads out there with people who love mustangs no matter what. Reguardless of what some on this forum think a MUSTANG IS A MUSTANG and I will try to go out of my way to show Mustang love. Now if a guy is an idiot he'll get the respect an idiot deserves.

well if i learned something from all this i guess it's, not everybody's in love with their stangs, maybe coz u dont have to save money so hard to make it stand out, coz u already have the money. maybe it's just coz i'm 21 with minimal income source, and my life revolves around my mustang, i act like a freak. am not gonna stop what am doing although the family is against me spending all the money on my car, guess they do have a point, wat can i say, i love this beast.

Enjoy it while you can!

pretty soon mortgages, utilities, student loans, etc., will preclude you from having too much fun with the car!

I see this sweet Legend Lime coupe almost every day leaving work. I've followed him and passed him and done just about everything I can to attract his attention. He has darked smoked windows that are always up and he never acknowledges me personally. I know he sees me because we have engaged in acceleration contests. Doesn't matter - it's still a sweet ride.

She's a beauty!! you have a right to be proud. When I was 21 I had a big block 67 Vette, I lived, ate, and breathed muscle cars, and having a job at a speed shop just helped fuel my insatiable appetite for horsepower.

Us older guys love our cars just as much as we always have, we just have more things that we need spread that love around on.

You must be a lot older than me, cause even in the 80s/90s, that was a ton of cash!

I bought it in 1976 for $3000,( that was a lot of money then!! ) it was wrecked. I was 19 at the time and spent the next 2 years rebuilding it. It was a convertable with the L36 390HP 427/4 spd.

In my day, you couldn't step into a wrecked 67 Corvette for less than $20,000 -and at that price it was usually a stripped hulk.

You mean we actually have pay for these things...:hihi:

I own a Mustang and I have a bit of an attitude (you know, being an attorney and all), but I do not think I have a Mustang Attitude. Do not get me wrong, I love my stang and she is well pampered. Yes, I do have money to spend on to make modifications, which I have done and will continue to do. But in all honesty, I just wanted a very cool car, one that is cool now and will be cool for some time to come. I prefer the classic muslce cars of the 60's and early 70's but am not old enough to be a first owner of such. I like the Vette and even the Viper, and can probably get one or the other, but neither is very practicle for me.

At the time I bought my Stang, few options were avaialable. I wanted something that favored the retro styles, something powerful (must be a V8), something fast, something that was somewhat limited (comparabley speaking) and something that had the "oooh aaah" factor. At the time Chevy only had the Vette and SSR. the Vette wasnot practical enough for my needs and the SSR did not quite meet my expectations (too heavy and too expensive for what you got). Dodge had nothing but the Charge/300C. Imports just were not what I was looking for. Since I absolutely love convertibles...that left the Ford Mustang GT vert. I am not particularly a Ford fan, for traditionally a Chevy man, but Ford had the right product at the right time, while the others did not. Had Chevy had the new Camamro out at the time or if Dodge had the Challenger out at the time, or if the GTO was just a bit better in looks....I may not have had the chance to be a proud owner of a Mustang.

You bet, by the mid 80's they were worth some serious coin. I kept the car until 1988 when we were diagnosed with our first child, sold it and built a house.

i dont' think it's a problem if you don't have a mustang attitude, i know when ur out for a drive, ur not always tryin to show off ur ride or look for competitors, u might just wanna breathe some fresh air or usethe mustang as a transportation vehicle which is pretty normal; coz otherwise ur life is just empty. so no hard feelings if some don't acknowledge other mustang drivers, but it's just a nice brotherhood feelings when u do, that's all am sayin.
