I have a supercharged 07Gt. Had it at a show last week parked right next to GT 500. ( which I was offered to purchase at 20k over list) I was told many times I would stomp all over it and mine looked much nicer. Mine is orange.

07 GT. Exterior mods n/a. Engine mods, see profile.
One of the more powerful cars around.
One of the slower cars around.
Makes me feel like a kid every time.

I'd take one on... grant it I have almost a base 500 MSRP into mine... but it is a better car... and it's mine, as in designed/built by me...

I saw a video not long ago of a GT500 with the most basic of mods running DEEP 11's. With a little more, easily a 10 second car. Granted it's a hefty car payment, but still a 10 second car is a 10 second car.

Plus it's got a warranty. If you got money to sling around, I'd go for one. But I think I'll be sticking with my car.

If I decide to S/C it down the road, it will have the best of both worlds...it will still be a beautiful car(unlike the GTO) but it will also be a sleeper. People will think it's just a GT, then BAM!

The only thing good about the GT500 will be its value AFTER old Shell is gone. Other than that its an over priced sled.

Apparently a Mustang GT with an intake, chip and full exhaust will take a GT500 in 0-60 and 1/4, although the trap on the GT500 will be quite a bit higher. The weight definately takes a toll on the Shelby. A supercharged GT in a head to head with a GT500 will be a hands-down win.

How many of y'all have actually seen the GT500 on a strip and can base your opinions on that and NOT what some loser test driver for a big time magazine can muster up?

Seriously, I have seen so many people talking smack about the car. Do the math folks, 500 freakin horsepower, solid axle...the thing is going to run like a scalded dog. Just because some pansy that spends more time trying to launch FWD cars can't get the thing to move down the track, does not mean that it can't be done.

I can remember this same conversation about the S197 about 12-15 months ago. "This cars to heavy, why the 4.6 again, why couldn't we have a car in stock form faster than the Ls1" etc etc...... One year later and we have a slew of S197's running in the 11's and 12's (and a few in the 10's) with impressive trap speeds and unlimited choices of power adders. Granted, there will not be as many test mules for the GT500, but Evolution Perf has already got that beast in the 10's with minor modifications. Patience, patience.

Your argument doesn't pan out though. The same people at Road & Track who got uninspiring times with the GT500 also ripped a 4.9 second 0-60 and 13.5 second 1/4 mile with a stock GT. If they suck at acceleration runs as much as you claim, then they logically must have sucked the same amount with the regular GT.

(Of course, I'd trade for the Shelby in a heartbeat if offered. It's a great car. I'm just saying that your argument isn't really valid.)

OK, and what kind of times have box stock Mustang GT's pulled off in 0-60 and 1/4 mile? I'm willing to be it's better than 13.5. The sun shines on a lazy dog's butt once a day so I'll concede that 4.9 sec is a fair enough 0-60 time.

Id love to own a GT500 but I would not pay the 20k over MSRP that most dealers want.

The tests I saw of the GT500 were 12.35 to 13.0 stock depending who is driving.
Slight mods and this car will go low 11s or even high tens.
65k for car
5 k in mods = 70 k for a Mustang

Could buy a Z06 Vette for that money!

I bought a Mustang GT convertible and added a KB and I turn consisten 11.8 times for a lot less money
