New Police Laser Guns...??

I recall that the speed reading laser had to be hard mounted to work, like on the coppers door, window down, etc? The last two days I have seen MC cops out with hand held units and my detector goes 'LASER'...??

Luckily I was in the truck that hardly speeds and on the Stang I have jammers...

Anybody know if they used to have to be 'non moving' and now they can or if the coppers got new toys?

Quite the opposite. Both the LTI and Kustom Signals Lasers are hand held units. The sighting system is similar to a 35mm camera as you sight through the optics that the laser travels through. There are examples of what the officer sees on the companies web pages. Currently, the units only work in the stationary mode. This is because of the very narrow beam width. At 1000 ft or so, the beam width is only about 4 feet in diameter. This makes it almost impossible to target a vehicle as the patrol vehicle is moving. Most unts show the speed and the distance to the target. The only hope you have of forwarning, is to hope the car in front of you gets hit and enough of the infrared laser beam is scattered around to hit the detector lens in your car.

Take a look at this page, it will cause nightmares.

Forwarning is all good... I hate to see that LASER and that crazy shirp...

Even with the Shifter it's scary.... then one have to slow and turn the shifter off all while looking cool and not hanging in the seat belt...

Just be careful if they run VASCAR. It's not a radar but a time/distance calculator and no detector will pick it up.
