The wonderful, stupendous, marvelous, DMV...
I knew I should not have expected things to go smoothly with the Dept of Motor Vehicles. I applied for a vanity plate...sent in the 2 forms with my check like they asked. I pick up my mail yesterday and see an envelope from the DMV. Before opening it, I foolishly think that they have processed my request and are telling me it will be sent out soon. Instead I open it 2 find both of my forms returned along with my check, along with this note:
Our records indicate your old vehicle information. Your new vehicle information has not yet been updated in our system.
Please hold your application for 4-6 weeks from the validation date on your permanent registration and at that time please call us at (860) 263-5154 to be sure your new information is in our computer.
Special Order Plate Unit
In the words of my avater.....WTF !! Maybe I am naive or clueless but how the hell does it take 4-6 weeks to make a change in their computer from a 2005 Acura TL to a 2007 Mustang GT convertible ???? I could write a small computer application for my business customers at work in that amount of time.
Oh they were kind enough to send me out a pre-addressed envelope for when I mail my forms and check BACK to them again. Not pre-stamped of course.
I never thought I would see the day when the DMV did not accept money. I mean why couldn't they just cash the check and keep the forms on file ??
On the bright side...they have reserved my choice of plate for me...WLD.PNY. Maybe it will be ready by the time I buy 2015 Mustang GT convertible...
I would expect no less from any motor vehicle dept :)
Yep thats the system we live under!! Aint it grand!
Sorry you'll have to wait! I do like the choice though!!
It's always fun there!
I had the Waterbury DMV screw around with me on YOM plates for my 68 Mustang. I kept the 'Early American' plates on it after that fun ordeal.
So in Connetticut you order a vanity plate against a specific vehicle? Hmm. Not here in Texas. Our vanity plates are not assigned to a vehicle until you go in to pick them up at the tax office and register them with a car. Go figure. :headscratch:
2k....I am calling them tomorrow....I have a few questions for them. First, why can't they just send the plate and then update their computer system when they get the chance ? The registration is still in my name no matter what car I am driving. 2nd...I already have the registration that the dealer transferred for me the day I picked the car up....and that says 2005 MUSTANG GT on it....so obviously it has to be in their system somewhere. That's 2 of several questions they will have to field.
The DMV I go to usually has about 5 employees behind the counter, but If I go there with about 5 people waiting, guaranteed it will take at least an hour to get out of there. Just another gov department of inefficiency.
Hey, at least they sent your check back.
I once stood in line for 2-1/2 hours only to get to the window and be told I couldn't do what I was asking. I was trying to register a car and had inadvertently filled out the form wrong, but boy was that woman nasty.
Myltl.....people should start posting their most frustrating DMV experiences here, I'm sure that would give everyone a laugh...lol.
The special plate unit does have it's own phone number that is separate from the regular DMV, so I should be able to talk to the robots sometime today.
I will be cordial.....at first.....lol
Well here is an update....I called them this morning and my new information is now in their system. They just mailed all my original stuff back to me last Thursday and now I have to stuff it the envelope and mail it right back to them.
My tax dollars hard at work....
