2005+ Mustang Headlight Reflector - Black & Flaking

Please could some members take a look into their headlights and look carefully at the "dome" that sits in front of the halogen bulb. I notice that this device in both headlights of my 2005 Mustang V6 has gone black and in one the black surface is cracked and peeling.

Since I noticed this a week ago, I have looking at the headlights of many late model vehicles with clear lenses and notice that the "dome" is very shiny. This includes a whole variety of Ford products, including my wife's Escape.

I looked at the front view pictures of the gallery and it appears that several 2005+ Mustangs all have a "black" dome in front of the bulb so perhaps this is normal. I am using stock bulbs.

If other members report back that their cars are like mine, I'll forget about it. If yours are shiny, I will be at the dealer.

Many thanks.

Mine are black domed. So what is your question? Is this normal, yes it is.

My passenger side light is doing the flaking thing. What is the dome for? The stock bulbs suck at night. I want to upgrade, but I'm not 100% sure whick bulbs to get.

Mine are black. Both are shiny and smooth.
