Superchargers for the S197 Mustang GT ... I have some questions

I am considering a Supercharger install and need to know why the options for automatics is so limited. There are only one or two models I have found that even list a S/C for GTs with automatic tansmissions. The problem is that it appears as though you cannot obtain the same boost or even intercooling if you have an automatic. This really sucks and I am now regretting buying my GT with an auto tranny.

Do they impose this limitation because automatics can't handle the added stress/torque? What is the reason exactly? Can I ignore the recommendations and get a higher stage S/C regardless or would it be better to sell mine and get a manual tranny?

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

There are hundreds of people running intercooled S/C's with automatics.
checkout JDM Engineering at JDM Engineering
They're running low 10's with their auto equipped saleen blower.
Their mail order tunes are the bomb.

Hey- there are plenty of options.. Roush, Saleen, Whipple, Kenne Bell.. those all make kits for autos.. Ive got an auto, and have been looking at all 4.. but now ive narrowed it down to Whipple and KB..

Hey Guys, thanks for the input but I am not sure that you can get the best superchargers on an automatic. Ford Racing which sells the Whipple units restricts the 200 h.p. models for manual transmissions only! That was my point. The only model listed for automatics is a 100 h.p. non-intercooled unit. Now Ford must have a reason for this. I'm sure that they didn't limit the better superchargers to manual transmission equipped cars on a whim. Anybody know why you can't get more boost for an automatic?

I have included a link to a spec page for one of the Whipple superchargers from Ford where it clearly states that it is for manual transmission equipped cars only! The link is as follows:

Take a look at what the KB, whipple, and saleen superchargers are offering. note that that link says 500 reg. hp, where as the others state RWHP. Theres a difference. Me personally, I'm convinced that I am going FI. I have chosen Saleen in the future after I put in some longtube headers and a few more engine mods (pistons, rods, cams, etc)

Look at the Sept. 2007 Muscle Mustang & Fast Fords on page 145 (Project Milf)

JDM tuned an intercooled whipple on an auto.
They are now offering this service to everyone just like they've done with th Saleen.

They've sold over 700 Saleen setups an have seen every possible combination.

I have sent you a PM with the name of someone local to you. He's running in the neighborhood of 650rwhp with an S197 and knows of tuners in your area if you're looking for a custom dyno tune. Tell kim peter sent you

You said they only have a 100 hp non intercoolewd unit for auto.. im sitting here looking at WK-200752BN/A05-064.6LMustang GT - Auto - 24V HO (7PSI)I/CBlack$6079.99

They have it where you can only buy the 7psi kit starting.. you are able to buy a pullie and up the boost.. They do it as like a safety precaution.. So they can say- we sold you a kit that wouldnt hurt your car.. so you by buying the pullie to up the boost- your doing that on ur own.. So if something breaks.. they can say well you modified the kit.. Thats my guess.. but ive heard of 10psi on a stock motor on an auto and its been fine.. I guess it depends how hard you beat on it, and all that.. but ford does this because from what ive heard- the auto trans cant handle as much? I always thought it was that auto was for the bigger power.. anyone know?

Also, you can order your kit from lethalperformance.com.. they sell the 10psi kit for both a/t and m/t

The only complaint I heard from guys with autos and s/c was the shift points on the trans. This is easily fixed with the right tune. If I get another mustang it is going to be an auto with a s/c and I have no worries about doing it.

07 GT. Exterior mods n/a. Engine mods, see profile.
One of the more powerful cars around.
One of the slower cars around.
Makes me feel like a kid every time.

Yeah, when i got my GT i said the 300 was enough.. then got my intake, exhaust and tune.. and said it felt alot better- no need for more.. and now im going down the path of F/I.. i hope the 523hp at the crank at 8psi claimed by KB is enough for a 20 yr old..

Standard rule of thumb; if some is good, more is better, and too much is just right.

07 GT premium in Grabber Orange. 5spd. manual w/ a few bolt-ons.

I have an 06 auto vert with a magnacharger running the 10 psi pulley but am having belt sliipage and am only pulling 7psi. I have had the sc on for 20,000 miles with no problems. The car dynoed stock at 239 rwhp I also have long tubes and Steeda CAI. Last dyno was 404 rwhp on a 98 degree Florida day. The sc also has an intercooler. The tune on the tranny makes a huge shift difference.
