I was driving about 50 mph and the car was running perfectly fine but as soon as I got to the top of a mountain, the engine cutout and the orange wrench light came on. I pulled off at a gas station about a mile or two away and checked all the plugs in the engine bay and they were all plugged in and seemed to be fine. I got it back home about 20 miles later and I read the codes that the check engine light was saying. they were all four of the O2 censors and the EGR. I cleaned the egr and cleared the codes and started my car again and the same thing happened. my dad had me switch out the throttle body and sensor with a new one and its still doing the same thing with the same codes. ive looked underneath the car and I don't see any smashed wires or any that are pinched. its been broke for about two weeks and we cant figure out what the problem is. any ideas??
hmmmm . . . that is getting up there in altitude . . . but when you come back down it should go back to normal
I wonder if you need to complete a "drive cycle" to clear the codes? I think I would drive around for a couple days and see if it goes away, and then investigate further if not
EDIT: I see it has already been a couple weeks and I assume you've been driving enough to complete the drive cycle so I guess that's not it
I wonder if disconnecting the battery for about 20 minutes might clear it . . . be aware that might affect other things like your radio presets and time, before you go ahead with that
it does not seem likely that all five of those components failed at the same time, so I'm guessing it was something to do with the altitude, but I really don't know mystery.gif
What were the exact codes.
At that altitude you need the proper air/fuel mixture but I don't see why the problem would follow you home at a lower altitude.
Has the car been maintained.
Has the fuel filter been replaced recently. How old are the spark plugs.
What code keeps popping up?
the codes are p0102, p0135, p0141, p0155, p0161, p0403, p0443, p0446, p0720, p0106. fuel filter was changed about 5,000 miles ago and the car has had spark plugs done, oil done, air filter cleaned, MAF sensor cleaned, and throttle body cleaned in the past 1,000 miles or less.
