What kind of CAI?

Hey,
I am planning on getting a CAI for my stang pretty soon and was looking at the BBK that American Muscle has. But I saw someone else mention in another thread that it is better to have a CAI that requires a tune (The BBK does not). They suggested the JLT from AM. It is like $10 more than the BBK so that isn't an issue at all, but I am just wondering if it is in fact better to get one that requires a tune? And I do already have an SCT Tuner so that isn't a problem either.

Thanks in advance!

The JLT does require a tune, because it has alot more air flowing through it! It's going to be a night/day difference if you hold out and go with a CAI/Tuner combo from Bama at AmericanMuscle. Not only will you get the horsepower/torque from the CAI, but you'll get increased throttle response, automatic get shift points/pressure, better gas mileage, and a few different maps (Street, Performance and Race) to choose from.

This is what you want: JLT CAI & SF3 Tuner (05-09 V6) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

If you have any questions at all, feel free to give the Bama team a shout directly. They're here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and their direct line is 888.226.9764. They'll be happy to walk you through your options!

Probably was me lol, reason being if it doesn't need a tune what is the difference between one that doesn't require a tune and your stock airbox? (Not adding anymore air than stock) one requiring a tune will be much more air and with out a tuner will set off check engine light. You will not be upset with the JLT

Thanks for the info! I already bought the tuner from you guys a while back, so would still work if I just bought a JLT CAI from your site, and then have you send me a new tune to compensate for the CAI?

And thanks everyone else who responded!

Yea if you already bought the Tuner from AM call them and give em your info and the'll set you up. The JLT CAI is the way to go. Im not farmilar with your Emissions in your State but you may need to get a Emission Tune also so you can Pass Inspection when the time comes. Dont be afraid to get all 93 Octane Tunes, 93 is only $3-$4 a tankful more and you'll also get better gas mileage with the 93 as long as you can keep your foot out of it
Also why do you have a Tuner already and are not using it? and why would you get a CAI that does'nt require a Tuner if you already have a Tuner? When you get your Tunes get the 93 Race Tune as one of your choices

Well I live in Colorado, so I should be fine with the emission tests. And I can't really do a 93 octane tune, because the highest we have here is 91. I do run the 91 tune currently. I do use the tuner, and I got it first because I had problems with a really cheap CAI I bought with the check engine light coming on, so I thought it needed a tune so I had to buy the tuner. And haven't had enough money for a CAI.
The only reason I was thinking of one that didn't require a tune is because I actually didn't know it made a difference, and compared to the other CAIS I had seen it was much cheaper. But I didn't notice the JLT for only $10 more. So that is definitely what I am going to get!

Hmmm can I run the 93 octane tune with 91 octane gas?

octane and tunes

From everything I've read... don't run a 93 tune with 91 fuel.

You can always put higher level octane into your car than the level of octane the car is tuned up for but not the other way around.

If your car is tuned for 93 octane then you shouldn't ever use anything less than 93 octane. It has to do with the combustion temperature and detonation of the fuel/air mixture.

You could do some major damage to your engine by running a lower octane than what you are tuned up for.
