Not beating a downed horse but qear question on a 2011 Mustang GT

Know that the 3.73 vs 3.55 is a personal question but has anyone who has gotten the 3.55 felt like they should have gotten the 3.73?
Was set on 3.73 but there may be a 3.55 2011 available and was wondering about the difference in feel...There have been several folks who said that they got the 3.73 and thought the 3.55 would have been fine.....Just trying to justify the feel difference vs the cost and convenience of the 2011 vs 2012...

To understan exactly what the difference really is you can just use math and math never lies. the difference is .18 and divide that by the gear rato of 3.73 and you get .048 more or less when moving between these two ratio's. Now can that be felt in the seat of you pants? Maybe a sensitive butt can but the difference will be seen in the gas mileage and such in favour of the 3.55. So nearly the same performance any a tiny bit better milage for the 3.55 the reverse for the 3.73.

Either one is fine. Just don't get 3.31's! I swapped 3.31's for 3.73's and it made a huge difference in every gear part and full throttle. 3.31's make this car feel anemic and boring! 3.73's are much more willing and fun.
I lost 1mpg overall going from 3.31 to 3.73. But really, I didn't get this car to save gas...
For the quarter mile I might lean more towards 3.55's since you can get more mph in 4th.
If I were really getting this car for drag racing auto is really the way to go.
I've never experienced the 3.55's in an 11 GT but have heard the 3.73's feel mildly snappier.

I have 3.31s now and 4.10s awaiting install. This should be a beast on the street!

Butt dynos are highly susceptible to fat bias.

Google up some 1/4 mile times and see if you can find a perceptile difference.

If this thread is to be believed, the rear axle is not a limiting factor for maximum performance.

2011 GT 5.0 with 3.31 gears 1/4mile stock? - SVTPerformance

The numbers posted there are the same as those published for the 3.73.

Hard to imagine the 3.55 will give you a noticeably different result.

The 3.55:1 differential makes 1st gear impractical for normal driving, and it makes starting in 2nd gear easy. In my opinion, the 3.73:1 makes 1st gear even more impractical for anything but racing. I am satisfied with the 3.55:1 differential.

When I ran the numbers doing a what if I were going to buy a new 5.0, I came up with 3.55s. That selection would make 1st like a 4.6 car with 3.73s which is more than enough with street tires given the extra torque for the new 5.0. And 6th would be similar to a 4.6 car with 3.31s for the highway. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

I did the same analysis (in Excel) and came to the same conclusion. Seems to be fairly much "poo-pooed" by the "gotta have 3.73s" crowd. Personally, I have problems with traction now, and that's with Brembo 255 P-Zeros. I think 3.73s would only make that worse - unless you're gonna drive around on Nitto NT05s or something (would get real $$$).

I think the 3.55 gears are a good choice, for street tires. The transmission has a nice low first gear, and 5th gear is direct drive, so nice close ratios. Now for slicks and the drag strip, 3.73.

I have 3.55 and 1st gear goes by VERY quick. I usually start in 2nd during normal driving because of this. I can't imagine how it would be w/ 3.73. I'm very happy with the 3.55

Thanks

These are the answers I was hoping for. I had decided on the 3.55 for the reasons most described however, did not want to say"I wish I had". I would seem that the 3.55 is more then enough for street use with street tires. With the lack of 2011's left, it is difficult to drive both back to back. Also, I have seldom seen the 3.55 in dealerships. Given that there is maybe 150 rpm difference between the two, I would doubt that most folks could tell the difference.

For a more definitive answer I would say go test drive each one with 3.55's / 3.73's to see which one is more fun and seems to meet you're personal needs/driving habits.

So what's wrong with the 3.31?? It seems to me that having a real 1st gear rather than something too short (ever hear of bull low in a truck?).

Can someone post a direct link to the spreadsheet/graph with gear comparison chart for the three or four choices?

THX!:shiny:
