Picked up new Mustang

Greetings everyone; I don't post very often but I just last night, picked up my 2011 Mustang GT. Granted, I had to sacrifice my fairly new motorcycle and trade in on my 2007 Mustang GT CS, as well as a "given-a-talk-to" by the wife, but she means well Anyway, I wanted a GT500 but couldn't afford a new one. Who knows what kind of driver drove the used GT500 I wanted? Well, this new GT had 9 miles on it and smells awesome! Plus, I got a $2k rebate, and a company discount. The only Mustangs there, had 3.55's so that's what I have. I hear there's an optional 3.73 but I didn't get that lucky to get one.

My only question is that I read (in this article following the paragraph) in an article that the actual HP rating was about 435 when on the dyno at the Research and Development Department at the K&N Air Filters in Riverside, CA. It really doesn't matter which rear axle gear ratio using, but according to this article, a 4th gear pull on the dyno yielded 435 hp and 404 ft-lbs of torque. Does everyone agree with this? I guess 4th gear yields the greatest HP? Just curious is all.

That seems a tad optimistic to me, given all of the dyno results I've seen here and elsewhere where the cars were typically in the 360-370 whp range. For 412 crank hp, that's right where the power output should be to the wheels.

Maybe they had a ringer, maybe it was a factory freak, a generous dyno, inaccurate conversion math, who knows, but that sounds atypical to me.

Typically when dyno testing, you try to use the gear that is a 1:1 ratio or as close to that as you can get.

You don't care when my car was built or what options it has.

Congrates with your new Stang...best of luck....

Not that this means anything because there have been many different opinions on the factory HP, but a recent article in Car & Driver printed the factory HP at 425 to the crank..

Again, IMO the 412 is a bit understated and it would not be the first time that Ford did that over the history of this cars...
