Sync wont pick up iPod sometimes

I have a 3rd gen new iPod and sometimes SYNC will not pick up the USB port. I know the cord and the port are still good because when i plug the ipod in it starts to charge but t hen i push the voice button on the steering wheel and say USB and i get no USB device detected.. This happens on and off. It did it to me on my way to lunch, but would never pick itself up. Then i got in my car after a lunch break and the car synced itself right up. Any ideas? I have used the SYNC My iTunes program Ford recommends. I have used brand new USB cords, This is a less than 2 month old iPod. My old beat up iPod never gave me any issues in regards to not Syncing with the USB port.

My iphone used to do this all the time, try plugging it in before you turn the key, solved the problem for me

My iPod is ocassionally unhappy if I have taken multiple trips (especially short trips) with the unit plugged in. Usually it just picks up right where it should but sometimes it thinks no USB device is there when I restart the car. I just unplug the cord at the USB port, wait a minute, then plug it back in. A PITA and not a real fix, but it gets you going again.

If you love your dog, get a microchip, they really work! My lost dog was back home in just under 24 hours thanks to the good citizens who called the county and the microchip that told animal control exactly where he lived.

Your I pod may be locked. Check the little switch on the top of it. If it is in the red, click it over.

my ipod has never worked. The ipod display screen says that this device is not compatible

Mine forgets the USB sometimes too. What I do so I don't have to dig around in the console. I just push the sync button on the wheel and tell her USB or Play USB . Then she finds it.

I'd recommend a Master Reset. This should help with the iPod being recognized.

Standard Radio:

Note: To scroll, press SEEK or the Up/Down arrows.

1. Press the Phone Button to enter the PHONE MENU.
2. Scroll repeatedly until SYSTEM SETTINGS appears in the radio display.
3. Press OK to enter the SYSTEM SETTINGS MENU.
4. Scroll repeatedly until ADVANCED appears in the radio display. Press OK.
5. Scroll repeatedly until MASTER RESET appears in the radio display. Press OK.
6. SYNC will ask you to confirm the reset.
7. Press OK to confirm.

Navigation Radio:

1. Press the PHONE button on the radio.
2. Press the SETTINGS button.
3. Press the ADVANCED button.
4. Press the DOWN ARROW to pull up more options
5. Press the MASTER RESET button

You might benefit from a Master Reset as well.

Which type of iPod do you have?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Maybe a master reset would work for me as well, will I have to resync my bluetooth?

The issue I have with my SYNC, is lately SYNC will come on and tell me that it could not finishing indexing my music, and that a new device has been discovered.

I've had the same iPod Touch connected since I got the car. Its only been the last few months that I've been hearing this message. Nothing has changed, hell my iPod hasn't been removed from the car in nearly 6 months.

Me too but my IPOD is pretty old and I have to use the aux and plug back there because it won't work if I plug into the USB at all. No big deal someday I will buy a new IPOD.

My phone won't sync very well and that frustrates me because its an Incredible less then 2 years old and should sync. A friend has a brand new Incredible 2 and it sync'd right up and stayed. Mine I have to use my phone but will go thru the car. But it always disconnects after being in the car 5 minutes. I re-sync it and then it will stay connected.

Thanks I'll give this a shot as the issue is starting to happening more frequently. Once last week the car decided it wanted to be on AM and wouldn't budge... I couldn't wake it up with the USB or phone buttons either, no matter how many times I unplugged the device.

Hey Ford Tech so what is the max amount of data the Sync system can take? I have a 64gig flash drive, only have 32gigs of music on it but I'm about to fill it up with music. Will it have problems reading that much info? It reads 32gigs of music without a problem right now except it occasionally needs to index.
