It may not totally cure it but any audible ping is gone and that's a pretty good sign.

I remember reading a thread on this somewhere too. This is the only catastrophic thing I've read about with this tune. From what I remember I'm pretty sure it was fixed under warranty and the tune was loaded again on the new motor.

I'd still recommend getting it. Mine doesn't ping and neither did my auto set on "N".
To be safe start with the "Y" setting, it's still way more fun than stock! Overall your warranty is quite safe. You could at least try it with "N" setting to see if it pings and if it does change it quickly to the "no ping" setting. You'll be fine. Of course put it on the "N" setting with an octane booster for special times

You misunderstood. I can still hear the ping with Octane set to Y, it's just more subtle and maybe for a split second

Why don't you do an idle relearn and a crank sensor relearn? maybe it'll help you out.

I've did the crank sensor relearn using the hand held, but what's the idle relearn?

I seriosly don't need an idle relearn. The engine and idle is smooth as butter except for the split second ping sound at 3.5 to 4.5k RPM

Its in your owners manual. Takes a few minutes.

make sure you do these resets with octane adjust off, so it has the more aggressive maps loaded.

May just help you out some. Cured the ping for one guy that I know of.

Doesn't matter that your car idles smooth. Thats not why you are doing an idle relearn...

Dudes, the only det that's damaging is the kind that continues under high load and it'd have to be for a VERY long time. A split second of rattle at tip in or under part throttle isn't going to do JACK SQUAT.

I've been building up motors for near 30 years; I've blown a few but, never because of this kind of thing. We would often get this from heat soak back in the cast iron manifold days, especially on the ****** early emissions-tuned motors.

BTW, for terminology's sake, anyone saying "pre-detonation", stop it. There's no detonation that's at the right time. There's pre-ignition, which is the mixture lighting off before the plug fires it. This is a different animal than detonation. pre-ignition will destroy an engine in fairly short order, det can be survived for a very long time, basically forever, if its as slight as people report here.

Here's some clarity, should you need it:

Okay I understand but on my fathers car no audible ping at all anywhere set to "Y"

That's comforting and I hope your right. We'll leave it on a "Y" for now to be super safe. From what your saying my father's engine is fine from the prior pinging. He's only had like 10 days and wasn't constantly flooring it . You could hear a little quickly coming and going in each gear. Only during 3/4 to full throttle not during part or half throttle.
It's just weird how his pinged and mine doesn't . Same gas and elevation.

His is auto, yours is MT. The load of the AT and the longer gears in the rear load the motor slightly higher than an MT and steep rear gears will.

I have MT and 3.73s, so, load is lowest running around, of all the choices on offer.

Were both manual he has 3.31's and I have 3.55's. Our concern is his because it pinged some for under a couple weeks. Mine is fine set on "N".
My last 5.0 was an auto that didn't ping with the procal set on "N".

well, then, it just fits under the fact that every car is slightly different and a can-a-tune-a is only going to be, at best, close but, not perfect.
