Any experience with Granatelli Axle-back exhaust?

I've been looking for an axle-back for my 2013 GT that will fill out those exhaust openings, and not show any muffler. I also don't want to add drone, and want to avoid a loud exhaust note. I don't mind it being around the level of the GT500 exhaust or so, but I'm not a fan of how that exhaust looks due to the larger mufflers and lack of rolled tips.

I found this for around $489, but haven't found any first hand experience with it. It looks and sounds good on the video, and is in the right price range (preferably under $500). Any thoughts?

I think it sounds great. I'm wondering what it sounds like without cats though

I love the look and the sound as well. But like most people I wonder how they sound in 6th gear @ 40-80MPH.

Drone sucks! If these are nice and quiet while cruising I might just have to get a set!

EDIT: Also, look at the pics and look at the video guys. This exhaust doesn't appear to have a bell at the end like others. It's flat at the end of the axle-back pipes. The video makes it look like this exhaust come with some different clamps and does not use the stock clamps?

I dunno man, GT500's look pretty good, sound good and don't drone.

I would just get another set of those, but seeing that I have had them, I'm looking for a different sound. These just might be the ticket. I think I'm going to shoot GMS an email and see what they have to say.

That's cool let us know what they say. Based on that vid I really like the sound of these. They sound deeper than the GT500s I've heard..all on video of course.

If there is no drone on these and they bolt directly on, for $390, credit card is standing by.

these look similar to the roush axlebacks i just took off. The cannister style muffler. Must flow a lot better. Similar sounds I think too as well.. could be just me though and my computer lol.

They look like Roush open chambers, they sound like Magnaflow Competitions...anyone else confused? I'm just REALLY smelling a rebadge, which is perfectly fine. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just got me thinking.

Sent them an email. I basically told them I liked the sound of the exhaust but I wanted to know if the exhaust produced any "cockpit boom" or "cockpit drone" at cruising speeds i.e. 75MPH down the freeway. I'll keep you guys posted.

BTW - I started looking at other exhausts and I found that the Roush exhaust sounds similar and from what I read it DOES NOT DRONE at cruising speeds. I figure if this Granatelli exhaust blows the big banana I'll just get a set of the Roush. I used to have GT500's. They sounded good, but not enough growl for me. No drone, but not loud enough. The Roush almost seem perfect, although I am hopeful for this new GMS setup.

If you end up going with the Roush AB's, I have a set for sale in the classifieds. Barely used.

Hmmm....on the vid these didn't seem as loud as the Roush. They just sounded deeper than GT500's and maybe a bit louder.

*fingers crossed for NO DRONE!

Alright guys! This is what I sent to them... I was kind of tired when I typed the email, but it's pretty straight forward....

Question from MustangChris810:

Hello. I am inquiring about a new exhaust system you have for the 2011 and up Ford Mustang GT 5.0. Granatelli part number GM-ES2525. I can't find much if any feedback on youtube or on the forums. The exhaust sounds great from your sound clip, but my main concern is if this exhaust produces "cockpit Drone" or "cockpit boom" at cruising speeds??? People online are starting to show much interest in this exhaust. Myself included. Thanks. Your sound clip is nice, but it's not a clip going down the road @ 75MPH in 6th gear. That's the sound I want to hear! Maybe you could put me in touch with someone a little more familiar with the engineering of this exhaust system? Thanks! -Chris

Reply #1 From Joey Granatelli @ Granatelli Motor Sports

I am the lead engineer on this system. It has NO DROME or BOOM effect while going down the road. A ton of time when into this. We make it - its not a simple rebrand from any old muffler company. J You will be happy. I can do a sound clip then next time we have a car come in. We also have a money back guarantee so if your not happy send them back – perhaps you can do a sound clip when you buys one – that would be great

Reply #2 from Nick Sorensen @ Grantelli Motor Sports

Thanks for your interest in our Granatelli exhaust system for the 2011+ Mustang platform. I am pleased to tell you that we have had no reports or firsthand experience with any “drone” or “boom” with this system. One of our local customers, a serviceman, has this system install on his Coyote powered Mustang for about 9 months and he hasn’t reported anything negative about the kit. If you watch our YouTube channel his vehicle is featured in a couple videos. His black mustang is in the “axle back” video and does some dyno pulls in our “Coyote coils” video. I hope this information helps, if you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to call or email me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, there you have it. I don't think it's a cooincidence that Joey's last name is Granatelli so that makes me feel pretty good about his response.

So, well... I'm deployed. I can't try these out at the moment or else I would for $389. Who's going to be the test mule for AFM.COM???
