Hey all! I have a 2011 GT auto and I have some tax return money I'm trying to decide how to spend. I'm already getting some appearance parts, but I'm trying to decided between the BBK 85mm or 90mm throttle body and then the Air Raid throttle body spacer, or would my money be better spent on an aluminum drive shaft?
Besides size what are the benefits of going from the stock TB to an 85 or 90 mm. I know more air more power, but is it a big difference and would you go 85mm or 90mm? What is everyone's opinion on the Air Raid TB spacer? Is it worth the money?
I know the drive shaft will reduce rotational mass so better throttle response, but which of the 2 situations would be the better buy for performance? I'm not so worried about price difference, but I can only afford to do one situation or the other. Any feedback is appreciated!
Throttle body is more or less a paperweight. There are a lot of things I would do before a driveshaft as well, but if those are your only choices, driveshaft.
Great Question I would recommend the Drive shaft as the upgrade of choice over the throttle body .
The drive shaft will reduce rotating mass which in turn will help slightly with acceleration , and along with a rear end gear change your will notice a more significant increase than you ever would with just a throttle body .
If you do decide to go with a throttle body I would recommend the ford racing 90mm throttle body part#M-9926-M5090 & spacer part # M-9474-M50 paired with an SCT tune .
For just the two ford racing parts for the throttle body you're at $600 + tuner $399.99 = $999.99 not including shipping .
Were you can get a Dynotech aluminum one piece drive shaft for right around $599 .
Regardless which route you decide to go I would recommend using one of the new JMS throttle response enhancers to unlock more potential power from your Mustang . We have had a great response to this product especially from the people with Automatics . I'll attach a link below for consideration . Bang for the buck it is definitely worth it .
OP. When I installed an aluminum driveshaft, it took away a factory vibration issue, and gave a noticeable difference in throttle response.
The stock throttle body on the other hand flows 930 cfm. Do some calculations, and see how much HP that amount of flow will support. Im a 560 rwhp and the stock throttle body is working just fine.
And just for the record. My tuner is Donny Walsh, a top pro mod driver. He told me in person that changing a throttle body is a waste of money.
Ford Mustang Aluminum Driveshaft 3.5" im running a shaftmasters 1piece drive shaft on ford p springs 1in drop all around 140mph run butter smooth no vibrations. Works well with stock suspension or an 1in drop ive seen 1.5in drop on auto no vibrations issues but if ur auto and really low it will require an adjustable upper a arm.
I see mixed results/feedback on the 1 piece drive shaft for the 5.0. Some say its the best thing since sliced bread less rotating weight faster ect. Some say it smooted out the driving experiance a bit but thats all. Others say they wouldnt know the difference if someone stole it and replaced the stocker back. I'm conflicted about buying a driveshaft sounds like a nice idea but for the money just seems like so many better things could be done. Like SUSPENSION, man thats the only thing I'm jealous about Camaro's
