Used power adders..thoughts?

What is your view on buying used power adders? More pitfalls than it's worth?

Found a pretty good deal on a used kit but don't want to wind up with a huge headache if a clamp is missing or worse.

I got one. Nothing missing but, small issue: tuner still married. There is a **** ton of small stuff in kits these days and that could be an aggravating thing. Still WAY ahead of buying new, even with the headache if having to send the tuner in.

Depends on what kit it is and how much. Pretty hard to give advice with no specifics.

It's a full Vortech v3 kit w/ID1000s and BAP for $3200. Currently still on the car. Has 1,500 miles on it and has been down the strip a few times.

I paid 38 for a polished version of the same kit, no BAP, no ID1000s with a claimed 8000 obviously very easy miles on it. Not a mark on anything but, yours still sounds a good deal to me. Fiddly **** to make sure you get are the air diverters for the fan shroud and relocation parts for the fan switch. There are well over 100 parts in the kit. It takes a full page to list them all in the instructions. Most of the stuff, other than the head unit, charge cooler, piping and couplers can be sourced locally if something is missing. There is a fair amount of surgery to soft parts (bumper cap, the fan shroud, the rad and coolant hoses) required to install this kit, be aware. I can help you with any questions you have.

I personally wouldnt. Just sounds like a huge pain in the ass, and I'd bet you dont get everything that the original owner received. Hope this car isnt your DD, as if you find you need parts and have to order or go drive your Daily around to obtain what was missing. Plus the added time and headache.

It's low price v. potential hassle. Really comes up to what you can tolerate. I have a work truck so, I don't really need to DD the Mustang so, having it down a few days isn't a big deal, really. I was very pleasantly surprised. I got every bolt, nut, washer, clamp, pre-modified hoses, everything, even the supercharger oil. The only hassle was the tuner wasn't properly unmarried and the PO is working with me on the cost of dealing with that.

This is my second Ebay blower purchase and I've been very satisfied with both outcomes and the willingness of the PO to stand behind what they were selling. Not saying everyone will have that experience but, this is a kit that, even on super special, non-polished, is a minimum of 4500 new, with no tune or tuner. If it's a true "full" kit, it's 6K, new, easy + the IDs and a custom tune to replace the Vortech one. This one actually sounds like the "Beefcake Special" ID and tuner kit package, likely.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy used if the kit is in working order and you get most of the pieces. Saves A LOT OF CASH.

Aye......just posting what I found locally. Long time before I ever think about something like this seriously due to the cost.

No need for rebuilding on mine (Vortech V3 HO on 2012 MGT). My issue has been finding someone willing to tune the car when it has the Vortech 47 pound injectors in there. I'll get that solved.

Last time I did this I got a pretty heavily used SN93 Paxton for my Foxbody. Ran good right off then started making noises. Seller bought me the necessary rebuild parts and I rebuilt it myself in a half day. It went on years after that and was on the car when I sold it.

So, while everything hasn't been perfect, I think I've done alright.

Oil fed units, I'd be worried that the dude popped his motor and the blower ingested metal fragments. Other than that, if he has instructions and all the parts, why not? You can even download the instructions so they aren't needed. I would only buy used if your saving at least $1000 and the blower doesn't have like 25000 miles on it.
