Deep Cleaning/Detailing for a National Show

Ugh. I spent 8 hours today getting my car ready for a MCA National Show that is this coming weekend at a local racetrack. Today, I cleaned up the carpet and trim in the trunk, cleaned the under-body of the care, cleaned the wheel wells, and I washed, polished, and waxed my wheels. I am dead tired and SORE!!!!!

And I have tons more work to do over the week to get the car ready!

I actually didn't get a lot done yesterday because I woke up feeling as if I had been beat up by the car! LOL
Yesterday I touched up the interior (it was pretty clean just needed wiped down and vacuumed), wiped down the engine bay, washed the hood liner, and vacuumed the trunk.

I use a product a friend put me onto called S100 Total Cycle Cleaner. It's basically motorcycle cleaner; I found it at a local powersports dealership, but it's also on Amazon. It leaves a nice shine on plastics without being greasy.

I think the seats look okay because I have managed to keep the miles off my car with a work vehicle. I'm just under 11,000 miles.

So for today's progress...

I spray painted my hood liner with high heat flat black to freshen it up a little and then re-installed it. I had to go to the parts store and get another plastic fastener for the hood liner because my dumb ___ dropped one into the engine bay and I can't find it!

I originally planned on doing a FULL detail on my car for this show. That means...
  • Wash
  • Clay Bar
  • Wash again
  • Compound
  • Polish
  • Wax

After working around the car this week, I realized the paint is in great shape so instead I used an air gun to blow off any dust and contaminants and then applied Chadwick's Triple Play. This is my first real use of the stuff and I have to say I'm thrilled with the outcome! Also, as I went panel-by-panel with the Chadwick's, I used a black Sharpie to fill in any paint chips I came across.

And now I'm exhausted!

I drove the car to the car show on Saturday. The roads were wet, and I also drove through a freshly tarred and graveled section of highway. I was not in a good mood. Once I got to the show, it took 5 hours to clean the car back up again. I was about to fall out from the heat by the time I was half way done.

I was thrilled with how the car came out in the end! I was awfully proud of it. Well, I was also at the point where I just wanted it judged and over with; and I wouldn't have cared if I had failed. I was exhausted!

Luckily the rain held out until after all of the cars were judged. I was pretty happy with the beading action of the Chadwick's Tripple Play!

And for all of my efforts, I managed a Gold! Although in retrospect I'm left wondering why we do this kind of thing!
