New 2011 Mustang Cabin Sound Piping

Quote:
Suffice it to say that new owners of the 2011 Mustang 5.0 will not immediately feel the need to go out and buy a set of aftermarket mufflers. Ford has outfitted the new Mustang GT with a generously piped high-flow stainless steel exhaust system with huge chrome tips. Engineers tell us they spent untold weeks and months in the sound lab getting rid of what we donít want to hear, and adding more of what we do. A sound pipe even transmits induction sound from the intake manifold directly to a drum-head like diaphragm in the firewall, giving the driver a healthier dose of that throaty V8. A device that owes itís origins to the Eco-Boost engine program, we have to say that it actually works.
Is this sound piping new or is it just now being taken advantage of? I also read that the sound piping is controlled by throttle so it only fills the cabin when you ask for it.

So what's the story with sound piping? What other cars use it?

Came out in the 2010 mustang GT and the only other car I know of that has it is the Taurus SHO. I really want to find a way to modify one for my wife's car (she'd hate me for that though). Maybe I'll just buy an early SHO

Sounds awesome on the 2010. 2011 Sounds nearly identical but with a slightly deeper note.

With the larger exhaust on the 10, you can hear and feel it rumble and gurgle..its quiet at highway speeds.

Well if the report is true about it being throttle controlled maybe you can lock it open. That way you get the burble at low rpm's. With all the new sound dampening the 11's might be a bit too quiet at idle for my taste as well. I might open up the pipe to let the glorious sound in.

I'm very tempted to leave my GT/CS bone stock though. I know this site is dominated primarily by people who relish the custom jobs so i might catch flak for this but I've always been a fan of unmodded original engineering. Don't get me wrong I'm not the kind of person to keep things in original packaging or anything, I think things should be enjoyed. I own an stock Yugoslavian SKS, which is one of the most modded rifles you can buy (Known as bubba'ing) and I take it out to the range as often as i can.

I put the money into the mods up front. Interior = glass roof + premium, Exterior = GT/CS, Performance = 3.73's. With those improvements and the fact that I'm going to be driving it daily (that's right GT/CS DD ) I think stock is the way to go for me.

There's just something about a well crafted product that proudly states, "I'm perfect as is"
