What about the GT500?

With all the hub-bub about the new 5.0, the GT500 has almost been forgotten. If the suspension has been so finely tuned in the new GT, it should be just as good or better in the GT500 shouldn't it? With 10 more hp and from what I remember, getting 23mpg hwy, this is another great mustang in the lineup. When are the numbers for it going to come out?
I'm thinking if Motor Trend now thinks the new GT is in German coupe territory, wouldn't the GT500 be in CLK AMG, or BMW M6 territory? at half the price!

Gt500 is twice the car the M6 is, that thing has like honda civic torque

thats becuz not alot of the avg stang drivers can afford the 46g-50g price tag on the gt 500 though it an awesome peace of work

The GT500 does seem like it was ignored this year other then a couple of minor upgrades the biggest being the new aluminum block which will save a little weight. Whats great about the GT500 is that it has an engine that is capable of producing even more hp with very little cash. Just like the 03,04 Cobra it can be easily pullied and tuned for another 100hp.

By the way, how can you compare the GT500 to the Mercedes or the BMW? The GT500 is half the price and with a set of slicks will dust both those cars.

If I had the money to go buy a new 2011 5.0 I would probably just buy a used GT500 instead.

I compare them to the Germans because if you read Motor Trend's article on the 2011 GT, they said the new Mustang GT is on par with anything coming out of Germany for half the price. Now if someone was looking at an AMG/BRABUS coupe or an M6, and they weren't looking for a status symbol, they could technically cross-shop the GT500, and get the same or better performance for half the price, with the same amount of quality.

But still, One is a Ford, the other is a BMW or Merc.

Say your a hot shot banker, exec, stock-trader, ect... What sounds better? "I drive a Ford Mustang" or " I drive a "BMW M3".

Thats part of why people buy what they buy too. Just like our Mustangs. I don't know about you guys, but the first thing someone asks me when they see or find out I drive Mustang is "Is it a GT?"

I always reply with "Do they make a V6!?"

lol....Just my two cents.

EDIT: And back to the thread, yes I think the GT500 was largly ignored this year too. But, that just means they must have someone good coming fairly soon. 50th aniversary anyone?????:bigthumbsup

People I know that drive a GT500 don't refer to their cars as a "Ford Mustang"... They refer to them as a "Shelby Cobra".

They had some cool tech for the GT500, the new liquid iron cylinder wall coating technique is pretty cool. I have a feeling though that they are going to retire the 5.4 and use either a twin-turbo version of the new 5.0 or develop a new mod motor for the job. I am leaning more towards the TT 5.0 though, would make more sense from a costs standpoint. There was some speculation about that a while back (aka roadrunner) and it just makes sense from a costs standpoint. Keep the 5.0 instead of developing a completely different engine and introduce DI so you can make an ecoboost version of it and stick it in the 2014 GT600 :)
