Mustang Beats Camaro in May Sales

According to figures released today by Ford Motor Company, the Ford Mustang's retail share in May was the highest for any month in a year. In all, the company sold 10,225 of the cars last month. In May of 2009 Ford sold 8,812 Mustangs. In May of 2008, the company sold 9,633. In April Ford only sold 5,145 Mustangs. Why the increase in sales figures?

Well, the arrival of the new 2011 Mustang lineup surely gave Ford a boost. So what about the Chevy Camaro? If you recall, it has dominated sales for quite some time now. Well, in May Chevy sold 8,931 Camaros. That means Ford sold more Mustangs in May, making it the dominating sales champion once again. How long will it last? It's anyone's guess. Chevy has touted a drop top Camaro, as well as rumors of a modern day Z/28. Of course, there are also rumors of a street-legal BOSS Mustang in the works. Things are sure to get interesting... and I'm loving every bit of it.

This should shut up some fanboys. Hopefully.

Why would this surprise anyone? The Camaros are not selling well here in DFW Texas.

I'd be curious to see the model breakdown. The Camaro is selling quite well here in Kansas City and most on the street seem to be SS models. The Mustangs that have been available are going to be mostly V6's.

The sad thing is that the numbers for both models are nowhere near what they were 25 years ago. Little wonder why GM and Ford build them on flex lines now. I don't think a difference of 1,300 dealership orders is going to shut anyone up anytime soon. That's one day of production.

Thats a result of Fords incentives/rebates and 0% financing on 10s more so than demand.

Ford didnt beat the camaro demand..they outsold them by offering great deals on the outgoing model.

However for 2011..yes the trend will most definately continue in favor of Ford.

Mustangs are the easier car to live with on a day to day basis and there was a slant in favore of camaro given its great performance and new styling..but that will continue to fade as people return to the car that is better as the daily driver and now that it performs better...will be a provibial nail in the SS coffin for beating mustang sales.
