Considering trading my 2010 Mustang GT for a 2011GT

I have a 2010 GT with 5 speed and track pack-1. It is my third S-197 stick mustang with 3:55 or 3:73 gears. I really wanted a automatic trans but was not happy with the performance of the 2010 GT with a automatic and 3:31 gear. I had just also stepped out of a 2006 automatic 400 horse LS-2 GTO (Loved the motor and trans--not wild about the body or handling).
I am considering a 2011 GT with Automatic and 3:15 ratio. The 2011 is in dealer inventory available now. Built I think in 4-07-2010. I have not driven it yet but have very high expectations. The trade in deal is really sweet on my 2010 toward the 2011. The big question is will I really be happy with the performance of the automatic 2011 version after spending the extra coin. My 2010 Is 3:73 gear and feels and handles great. It is pretty much an issue with for me with the stick shift, my getting older, and the darn traffic jams sometimes. The left leg gets tired at times.
Please give me some thoughts and opinions on this if you have driven comparable Mustangs. Thanks.

Drive it, see if you like it. If its a daily driver, maybe the auto is better from what you described. But, if it is a second car like me, a clear day, weekender, I like the feel of the gear changes and the control over the power ..

Personal preference is what it comes down to. either way, the 2011 GT auto or 6 speed , is a solid performer

Good Luck !

I think you would be making a big mistake. Wait a year and let things calm down a little. Your 2010 won't depreciate that much unless you put a ton of miles on it.

Financially speaking, I concur to wait a year on that. You'll take a HUGE hit.

Enjoy your 2010 for a few years then trade. A AutoTrader search showed close to 1800 brand new 2010's still on the dealers lot within 250 miles of NYC. (and that's only the dealers that posted their inventory on AT)

I'm sure that's true for most major markets (and a sneaky, back-door reason why Ford has been holding so many 11's for "Quality Assurance" on ramp 51....yes, I'm cynical)

OK but

I neglected to mention I purchased my 2010 used with only 3000 miles this January. The trade deal is pretty sweet. This particular dealership does not have any 2010 GT's new or used on the lot and are making me a really good offer against the 2011. What is an unknown for me is just how well I would like the 2011. Even though I really want an automatic I did not care for the feel of the 2010 with the automatic. With 3:31 gears it just did not feeel as strong.
How does the 2011 412 horse GT feel with the automatic and 3:15 diff. compared to the 2010 with stick and 3:73.
I will find out for myself tomorrow afternoon.
Anyone driven these two comparibly equipped Mustangs?
Thanks.

I have a 2010 GT manual w/3.73 gears and TrackPack and I drove an auto 2011 GT with standard gears. It had some more power, but it was not nears as fun to drive as mine. Like I said, I would wait a year or so. There will be plenty of options out there on the lots for you then and your car will not depreciate that much more than it has.

Just couldn't wait

Well I so to speak pulled the trigger on that new 2011 GT. Thought I would just go to drive one, think it over, so I would at least know what the new power train, suspension, and steering felt and sounded like.
WOW! I had pretty high expectations for this new power train.
I could not keep from smiling
As much as I liked my 2010 GT, I've found even more to like about the 2011 GT. The Mustang just keeps getting better. My only hope is that there won't be any QC issues pop up on these new power trains. Awesome!!!Ford is now building an engine coupled to an automatic transmission in a Mustang that I am very happy with!

Congrats on the 11 dude!

My Mustang is a transformer. Suddenly it has 4 wheel drive, 4 doors and an F-150 badge
