1st to 4th gear

Over the weekend I went to a local place known for hot rods, muscle cars, pony cars, etc. Most people who walked by my car stopped and asked about the 5.0. The response to my Red CS Mustang GT was unbelievable. Mustang people stopped and drooled. People literally said "I don't like Mustangs but I love your car" It was crazy. So if you just got yours take it out to a car lover place and watch the reaction.

Anyway, one of the many people who talked to me about the car asked about the 1st to 4th thing. Most of you probably already know this but in case you don't. If you are driving the car in fuel saving mode. That means that you are shifting around 1000 to 1500. The car will lock out 2nd and 3rd gear and shift you into 4th gear. This is called skip shift and people are worried about it.

My take from driving a 2011 - I've only seen this happen 3 or 4 times and I was driving really, really easy. I think a 2500 shift is fuel saving so even then it doesn't happen. You have to be driving like a grandma or not paying attention for it to happen.

Just thought you guys might want to know so that you can address the question.

Does it throw you off? I would think no matter how many RPM's you are running when you expect to push into a certain gate and it's locked it wouldn't be a good thing. My question is does the shifter slide right into 4th instead or do you have to realize that you're not allowed into 2nd, find the 4th gate, then push it in to complete.

It does throw you off a bit. Yes, the shifter slides right into 4th gear. You'll know it because the car makes a deep rumbling sound, rpm drops, and it's slow to accelerate. If you're driving in this ultra fuel saving mode then it doesn't matter because you're not trying to accelerate fast anyway.

At first I thought I missed 2nd but as I got accustomed to driving this car, it became more obvious that the car was making the decision. Under normal or aggressive driving you'll never see this happen

I agree, the 1st to 4th has only happened about three times in 700 miles. You really have to be going SLOW to activate this. It might happen in a parking lor or turning behind grandma after the light goes green. It is really a non issue in normal driving.

The 1>4 Skip Shift will be deletable with the SCT and similar programmers. Trust me, it will be a popular feature to delete. I hated that feature on my GTO. It happened to me once, and that was all it took to make me hate it.
