Which would you buy: 2011 Mustang V6 or used 2005 - 2010 GT?
Been tossing around the idea of getting another Mustang for awhile now. Up until this year I'd pretty much decided that I'd be getting a GT - a used one for reasons of affordability.
Now here comes the 2011 V6 with similar horsepower to the last GT for about the same price as a used GT around here.
So now, really the only argument for a used GT for me is that I've always been a fan of the V8 rumble, but it's getting hard to justify buying a used (probably abused) GT for the same price and similar performance of a brand spankin' new never-beaten-on V6 just for the engine sound.
What would you do?
used GT with supercharger already on it...abused? not likely, only the affluent can afford these cars nowadays
Th V-6 will not drive fast like the GT will. It is a different feel.
However, the 2011 you get the updated styling, the vastly improved interior, and you can get a V6 track pack that will the GT suspension on it.
One thing you could consider is if you got the V6, the aftermarket will be hot for it with the new motor. A SC or turbo kit will put it past the 2011 GT horsepower if you care to go that fast.
If your decision is based upon the V8 sound and nasty torque, then the 05-10 GT is your car. I guess the 2010 has the new body and interior too. My vote is for the V8.
If it is more about the interior quality, new body the newness and the hype of the new drivetrains, then the 11 is your car. 30 mpg too.
In the end, what I would really do is the greedy thing, and spend 5K more and get a 2011 GT from a dealer that will sell it to you at invoice ($27,300+).
I would definitely go with the 05-09 GT. The v8 is great, but with everything considered the 05-09 look a lot better than the 2010+s.
The best situation in my opinion would be to have the new 5.0L engine in an 05-09. Now we are talking...
I haven't driven an '11 yet but I have driven an '05 or '06 GT and liked it a lot. So I don't know if the new V6 has lesser feeling of low-end torque than the old GT. Without having the specs in front of me I don't know where the rpm difference is in max torque between the 4.6 and the V6, but to me the real proof will be in the driving anyway.
Overall I like the exterior styling of the last model better than the '10-ups, but I like the new interiors better. However, I don't dislike the new exterior styling, so it wouldn't be a strong deciding factor. I do like the sequentials on the new car much better though.
If money was no object, the '11 GT would be a no-brainer. However, I do have bills, a mortgage, etc. etc. so money is a consideration. Here (in Canada) the difference between a base V6 ($24000) and the cheapest GT (around $40000) is significant. I think the US market can buy a decontented GT for a lot less than we can, so it makes a GT pretty much unaffordable for me, unless I want to wait about 4 or 5 years for the price to come down. The difference in monthly payments (with a reasonable downpayment) is like $340 for the V6 vs $600 for the GT over 5 years. Not chump change IMHO.
Plus, the new vs used thing is not really a desire to have the latest and greatest, but more a practical thing. Like... a new car has new tires, new brakes, no rust, no wear, no damage, etc. whereas any used car is a bit of a gamble unless you know the previous owner. The idea of having a warranty for 3 years is attractive as well.
However, the V8 sound and torque is calling me! I guess it'll come down to the driving excitement, likely.
Looks like I'll have to think this one out a little more...

You should be able to get a *new '10' GT for less than a loaded out '11' V6.... I've seen 10's discounted $6500 off the sticker - and I have no doubt they'll discount more to get them off the lots.
Actually the 2011 V6s WILL be as fast as the 05-10 GTs. There is a video of a v6 racing a 2010 GT, and the GT won... but only by a car length. And you have to remember a few things:
1. A girl was driving
2. It was an automatic
3. It didn't have the 3:73 gears
4. No performance package
The 2010 GT's 0-60 is rated around 5.1-5.2 sec. The new v6 with the performance package is rated at 5.1 seconds.
So yes the 2011 v6 performance pack is just as fast as the 2010 GT, even better on corners. :smartass:
Test drive them. If I could have found a new or slightly used '10 GT for near the price, I'd probably go that way, but I didn't come anywhere near it. An '09 with 18K on it was the closest I found. While I like the V8 rumble, I do prefer a mostly quiet exhaust while driving.

I recently asked myself this very question. Though I love the sound and feel of a V8, I'd have to pay an additional $464 per year to my insurance company for the 2010 GT over the 2011 V6. V6 it is.
When I drive the wife's '11 V6 instead of the 5.0, I am always impressed with how quick it is. It seems to loose some bottom end compared to the 05-10 GT but quickly makes up for it in the higher RPM range. Of course, it is nowhere near the acceleration of the 5.0 but, never-the-less, very quick. Plus, she is getting 22 MPG and she does a lot of in town driving ..... impressive!:worship
I'm getting the V6, even though a new '10 base GT would be around the same price.

V6 front end looks better (imo)
I would prolly go with the GT only because I'm sure the prices will be a bit lower with the new 5.0's out. But if you are concerned with MPG, then I would just go with the V6!
