Question Custom order 2011 v6 ordered as "stock"?

So I ordered a Black on Charcoal 2011 V6 Premium coupe with 3.31 rear axle and MCA package from my local dealership and I think they ordered it as "stock" as opposed to "retail" which is considered (based on this description of the Ford order process) to be "spoken for".

Checking the dealer website I see an identically build V6 with an ETA of 7/2... which would roughly correspond to my order date of 5/24.

My question to this forum is: "Is that shady? Or is it something that dealers can do in order to get it faster somehow if there's a pre-built vehicle with all of those options waiting to be shipped as stock? Anyone heard of this?"

I'm new so hi! Thanks in advance for your comments and thoughts!

First welcome & CONGRATS on your order! There was alot of discussion here about whether it was better or faster (STOCK or RETAIL).I don't know if anyone really figured out what is or was faster.

There is alot of info here so nose around go through a couple pages or try a SEARCH.I was told by my dealer that mine would be ordered REATAIL but it came through as a STOCK unit. How do i know this you may ask.Good question others have reported that if it was ordered RETAIL the window sticker would have your name on it not the DEALERS.

My car must have been held back for QC checks because it was at RAMP 51 for a while. The reason i mention this is i will now tell you my order build delivery dates.Remember they didn't actually start building until MARCH.

ORDERED-2-12
BUILT-4-5
DELIVERED-6-7

YOU'LL LOVE YOUR CAR NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!

Sounds like it isn't a bad thing, just one thing for a dealer to try to get the car here ASAP.

This is my favorite mustang-related forum and ever since I set my mind to getting a new V6 (great daily driver car, and a good intro into sports cars) I've been prowling around reading posts.

Thanks for the reply, that helps a lot!

P.S.: My dealer's 2011 Mustang stock inventory is slated to arrive around the same time, might have just been tricky ordering to make sure they lock down the sale with me and they're doing me a favor. Not sure how it works on their end...

Mine was ordered retail because I have my name on the window sticker, which I think is just awesome.

I think that the hold on the mustangs have ended so I would assume that it doesn't matter now which way you have it ordered (stock or retail), but I personally love that my name is on the window sticker.

Dealer Stock is normally built before customer orders, they was trying to get you your car faster.
