What do you really lose by getting a 2011 Mustang base V6?

You get the same engine, the same transmission?

You dont get:
Leather
Sync
Power seat
Steering wheel audio controls
Chrome accents
6 guage dash (what two guages are missing?)
No color selection on dash

Those the main things? There is about 3k-4k difference in price.

you can do the stereo aftermarket, katzskin makes a much better leather interior and i know a few people who have upgraded to mycolor gauges from the base cluster. then you can buy them as you want to add them.

hell. i would rather buy a "key and a heater" 11 Mustang over a loaded 10....

good luck

Sorry, I meant to specify 2011.

I am thinking of an autocross, track car, something a little more barebones, and cheaper too.

Not to hijack, but have you seen the dash bezel? Good luck with that. By the time you get the right kits/bezels/wiring you've spent quite a bit of money already.

What are you comparing to? Premium?

ALL BASE V6 EQUIPMENT PLUS:

EXTERIOR
17" Machined Aluminum Wheels w/Painted Pockets

INTERIOR
6-gauge cluster w/MyColor™

Ambient Lighting – Map pockets and Sill Plate, Cupholders,
Front & Rear Footwells

Auto-Dimming Mirror

Bright Aluminum Accent Dash Appliqués, Pedal Covers,
Scuff Plate, Shifter Knob

Bright Chrome Door Speaker Surrounds

Door Trim Panel Inserts

Gloss Paint Center Stack and Console

Leather Steering Wheel w/Aluminum Spokes

Satellite Radio (6-mos. Complimentary SIRIUS®
Subscription, N/A in AK & HI)

Seats – Leather, 6-way Power Adjustable Driver, 2-way
Adjustable Head Restraint and Power Lumbar (Split-fold rear
seats on coupe)

Shaker 500

SYNC®

PLUS the ability to add other packages -V6 Pony, MCA, electronics, comfort, glass roof, louvers, etc. and probably the forth coming Performance package.

As for upgrading the stereo, there are many options and I'll wait until I get my hands on it to decide.
Currently, the headunit can't go double-din unless you buy a Metra or Scosce($$) setup.
I'm thinking going stealth - run the OEM headunit to a line-out(huge range of products and prices) to an amp and 6.5" components in the front door in a plate. 8" woofers in the front or 6.5" rear fills are a possibility. I'm not really sure about a sub as it's a convertible, but we'll see.

What do you really lose by getting a 2011 base V6?

The V-8.

That aside you will lose some of the nicer interior upgrades that the 2010 model brought, but mainly the sync, satellite radio, and nice stereo setup.

-Glass Roof
-3.73
-Security package

I created a tool to assist with questions like this one. Configure a V6 Mustang here, selecting no options aside from the powertrain:

Car price comparisons

The results page will put the V6 and V6 Premium trims side by side, noting and then adjusting for feature differences. It shows a $3,700 price difference, and then sums the default values for the latter's additional features to arrive at $2,625.

No value is given the uprated audio system, because there's no obvious way to put a dollar amount on the differences between audio systems. I do think Ford has charged $600 or so for the Shaker 500 system in the past. Even adding this in, the Premium seems to be overpriced by about $500.

And, if the extra features aren't worth much to you, then the Premium certainly isn't worth it's higher price.

right? but the point i was making is it is money spent later vs now. but the OP is not looking for cheap, but light. i get the impression they are looking to build a track car.

i think if the OP wanted to know about V8 options they would have brought that up in the original post.

After owning my base car for now a bit over a week .. I have no issues with the base interior. I do however have a real problem with Cheap!! Example: the Camaro interior looks real cheap to me. Granted we all have different tastes but if your struggling with which to buy go sit in a base car for 10 min and look around. Do some soul searching.
Plug in your Ipod or Mp3 player and listen to the base sound system without boosting the treble or bass.. Flat eq. It all worked for me without reservation. Regards

i was dead set on getting a base model until I sat in a premium. The base model beats the camaro for sure, but it still seemed very plain.

Premium all day long.... plus, how can you not have the V8? you can still track a premium car... and it's more fun to go on trips with when not tracking.
