Hill Descent?

I see a few posts about running the autos with the hill descent on and getting better performance. Is this true and why?

When you turn hill descent on it does a few things:

1. Disables 6th gear overdrive
2. Downshifts through each gear (Keeps the revs up)
3. Tends to hold each gear longer when accelerating

I use it around town all the time and feel a difference in the responsiveness / shift logic.

I thought I read somewhere that it raises the shift points (presumably would help when climbing steep hills), and locks out 6th gear. But owners manual says all gears are used, so not sure about the lock out.

I may use it for city driving to get the higher shift points. The baseline trans feels like it wants to keep the engine revs super low, presumably their way of getting best gas mileage. Also, doesn't the trans adapt to your driving, so you can teach it to have higher shift pts?

Don't have my car yet, so can't give knowledgeable answer - which never stops me from talking anyway.
