Steering Wheel button quality

I have a Premium GT and the black coloring is already being worn off of the "next track" button on the steering wheel. The car is only a couple of months old....granted my wife uses the button a lot when she drives the car but am I just expecting too much? Would something like this be covered under warranty?

If it is peeling already, i'd say it is a warranty fix.

EDIT: Is she using her finger or her nail when pushing the button? Cause I can see constant nail against button leading to premature peeling.

Believe me....been down that road. The problem is I have a 300gb drive filled with music in there and she has 10 songs that she is currently "hooked" on so she skips until she finds one lol.

To answer the other questions...no, she isn't using her nail. It is peeling on the raised surface of the button. If it continues to get worse I will have to take it in.

The radios on the '05-09's did this a lot. I've had no issues on the 2011.

I just noticed the paint or whatever is wearing off a little on the edge of my >> button on the steering wheel. I like to flip through songs while I'm driving so it gets a lot of use.

I would think Ford would have thought about this when designing the button. You can only tell at night when the light behind the button is on.

Not worth a trip to the dealer, but i'm going to note it for next time i'm in there.

Anyone else starting to notice this wearing?

Yeah, that is exactly what mine is doing. I actually took it to the dealer feeling like an idiot for complaining about the tiny spot that was wearing away but it is a $40,000 car?? Anyways, they said that they wouldn't be able to warranty the repair right now but he said when it gets worse to bring it back in. I was concerned that they would tell me that it is normal wear and tear if I waited but they agreed that it should not be wearing at all.

wrong material used for a high use item, a real brushed aluminum button would be better.

Same material as the 401a shift knob?

Not only would I be able to burn my palm up, I can burn the tips of my fingers too

I think for now I'm going to try and do a little touch up with a permanent marker.

A few days ago, I read this thread thinking 'boy am I glad this didn't happened to me!', although I do sympathize for those unfortunate enough to have experienced this issue...

...even more so now that it DID happen to me this morning. I was going down a fairly long stretch of road on the way to work, proceeded to press ON and +SET...a minute later, I notice a small speck of light above my +SET button. Pulled into the parking lot a few minutes later, and sure enough, upon closer inspection, a small (but noticeable) spot of paint is missing from the top right edge of my +SET button .

Currently...

Geez, I thought Ford would use a black plastic button with the text cut out (like many computer keyboards) and filled-in w/ clear plastic for the light to shine through...I think the older Ford cruise control buttons/window were like this.

I also change my station/music many times while driving. My old ride's buttons were worn out and YES I have fake nails. Been more careful trying to use my finger tip rather than my nail so that I don't wear this one out. I know it will happen at some point and will have to check to see if it has happened already. I do doubt if it is covered by warranty. I figure it is just one of those things. After reading this thread, I am paranoid ... going out to check my car now
