Wiring Autometer tach/shiftlight 2011 Mustang GT 5.0

So after a week of posts and no replies I dove in two installing my triple gauge pod from speed of sound...boost, a/f, n tach digital w led shift lamp.....anyway to the question of the day were do you get a freakn tach signal from! I will tell you since it took me 6 hours of wire tracing to figure it out....use the autometer tach adapter it has four wires....the grey goes to the tach signa wire....black ground.....now your left with two wires a red and red w green.....in the engine bay in the main fuse box look for fuse 40....its a 15 amp fuse. Under the fuse box is a yellow w green wire that feeds into this fuse from below. Cut that wire ....now wire the red wire from the adapter to the yellow w green wire going into the fuse...and the red w green wire from the adapter to the yellow w green wire half left going down into the engine.....bam! Done....let me post some pics.....ooooh man bad *ss!

Very cool. You may be one of the first to add an aftermarket tach to the 2011, so that's probably why you didn't receive any responses. I saw your post for assistance, looked through the wiring diagrams for half an hour, didn't come up with the traditional tach signal wire, so I didn't have anything to add.

Did you use the Autometer 9117 tach adapter?

Autometer 9117 FAQ

Eventually, I plan to add a shift light on top of the steering column.

Thanks for the info and intro to the tach adapter.

Mike

I know old thread, but according to the wiring diagram the yellow/green transitions into a larger purple wire then splits down to the 8 individual purples for the coils. A bit easier to access than under the fuse block. Cut open some loom, make sure you're beyond where all 8 come together (which is about even with the oil cap) and follow the same steps.

This is an old thread, and again I found it while looking for answers. I emailed Auto meter since the gauge didn't arrive yet, they have a great video on their webpage that covers all the wiring for the gauge lights as well as where to mount all the sensors etc. Here is the link.
