My Police "Escort" this morning.

This guy came blasting up from behind me doing well over 80 this morning. I let him by and we played around a bit on my way to work (it wasn't a local PD hence me not getting pulled over, not gonna say which city so he doesn't get in trouble).
He was apparently enjoying the spoils of the drug war as the sticker on the back proudly stated "bought with confiscated drug money". I couldn't tell if it was an SS but it was moving pretty quick. Good times

LOL They can be hypocritical. There are unmarked Camaros and Chargers here just to catch racers. I hope they don't instigate other drivers. That would be entrapment.

True, and that would have sucked but this guy was just having fun and not trying to instigate a race. I see cops speeding all the time so it doesn't surprise me. We have some roads with ridiculously low limits where everyone does 10-20 over and they're right there with the rest of traffic.

Overall the cops in D/FW are great, and that's coming from a former 'bad guy'. They are very fair and decent people here. Sure, I've heard horror stories about certain PDs (ahem Garland) but for the most part I've had nothing but good experiences with cops around here. Even the times when I've done something dumb to get their attention they're always cool to deal with.

The police should not be using that kind of money for toys or getting stronger. It should be put into the school system to make our children smarter . Educated people are less likely to get into trouble . Every natural born American should should have a very low cost college education

Sure they can get their college education. But not on my dime. I feel that would be a turn toward socialism. Our taxes already pay for kindergarten through 12th grade. Not everybody needs to go to college if they're future jobs don't need a college degree. It used to be a big privilege to attend college, now it seems more like an extended high school.

All i really meant is drug money should be put into the public school system instead of them using it gain more control over the general public. All the while they are laying off teachers and closing public schools . plus colleges are over charging you . use the war on drug money for something useful to us all and not just to make the police stronger.

As someone who was involved in law enforcement for over 33 years let me clue you in....the way drug money is used is controlled by LAW. Each State (and the Federal Gov't) has its own rules on just how drug money is allocated and used, NOT the police department.

Sorry this thread got hijacked. I have a feeling the car was probably an asset forfeiture involved in a drug organization. But anyway I think it's cool nonetheless.

You mention teachers getting laid off, but what about the police officers that are getting laid off? With all this drug money they should be rich right? Wrong. They do all the work, so why give it to the teachers? The police are under-funded all over the nation. Plus it gets split with the city attorney's office.

Exactly, I learned that last week. In Virginia, I think it's split 60-40 with the Commonwealth Attorney's offices.

Well now that you've gotten your panties in a bunch for no reason, I'll explain. First of all, I didn't say you hijacked the thread. The original post was about a cop driving a Camaro, then you brought up how money should be redistributed to public education, then we got off on a tangent that I don't think was directly related to the original point of this thread. So chill out. The picture I posted about thread hijacking was for myself since I feel like I took this thread on a different direction.

Like I said before, and another guy mentioned slightly, the police probably didn't go out and purchase this car brand new. As is common practice with many departments, cars are seized during drug investigations. Some are auctioned off while others are used for public awareness and relations and things of that nature. The money they would have received at an auction is very small compared to the value of using the car as a department vehicle. Now instead of taking a patrol car off the streets to drive to an event at school or somewhere else, they can use this Camaro and keep patrol cars on the streets where they belong. Nearly every department has a vehicle of this nature, used in parades and city events. Teachers have the lottery, now they need the police budget too?

In past years I have seen Texas use Corvettes, Mustangs and Camaros as pursuit vehicles on the open freeways. They would use the Crown Vic's and Caprice Classics to haul you away.

California used to be crawling with Paxton and Whipple supercharged Fox bodies as pursuit vehicles as well.

If the department has the money, then more power to them, especially if the state, federal government, or whomever has granted them authority to purchase vehicles with recovered drug money.

And if it's just a single promotional vehicle, then that's cool too. I see HMMV's (original "Hummers") painted all kinds of interesting ways, being used as promotional billboards for military recruiters.

I say, have at it!
