Just do what I did. Manage to get your cell phone jammed under the lid in the space the lid swings into.

It took me 10-15 minutes to extracate it.

Trap it there, lid doesn't open. Problem solved!!

Seems to me if they just reversed the placement of the cup holders & storage area the problem would be minimized. I don't use the cup holders since I went with the Ultimate Cupholders.

Which Model did you get? They don't mention the Mustang. Thanks?

E-46 looks to be the best fit. I have the E-39, but since I went to Husky Floor liners it doesn't insert quite as far as it did with the carpeted mats, and is a little more unstable.

I had the car for about 4 months before I happened to notice the lock on the storage bin, so I hardly think you are the only one not to notice it. It was just by chance I noticed it too.

Careful with that thing though, I locked my work ID badge in there once and then had to pull over, turn off the car, etc. to get it back out.

Easy fix to the stuck cell phone.
Open storage bin, stick finger in the hole toward passanger seat, push phone toward driver seat, open cup holder door.

I had the same problem with my 11 GT. I locked the compartment and no more opening when shifting. I do not lean and I am not short (6'2" and 240).

I've opened the storage lid with my elbow a few times but basically have figured out how my body should be situated in the seat (specially shoulder position) so that my right arm is a bit farther forward.

The problem with that is that occasionally my elbow will dig into the corner there at the top of the console were it drops off to the parking brake.

Ford should have used the same spongy rubber type material that they use in the rest of the dash for that center console are as well. would have made resting your arm in places other than the actual arm rest (which for me is far back) much more comfortable.
