Is my dealer giving me the run around?

I went into a dealership on 2/20 to look into a 2011 mustang v6. Long story short, I ended up ordering one. Not having looked into things too much prior to going, I didn't know that many dealerships were no longer taking orders for 2011s. The salesman told me the usual 8 weeks.

8 weeks come and go and I hadn't heard a thing from the dealer about the status of my order. I call up around 4/19 and he said he needed to wait till the Ford rep came in later in the week.

A week goes by and I find out via a friend of mine that works in the service dept that my car is listed as TBD due to a supposed paint issue. I call the dealer back and, low and behold, my car is now scheduled to be build on 5/9. Mind you, I haven't recieved a VIN or and order number yet.

why is that a runaround? Sounds like there is something beyond their control...if you don't like it, cancel the order or take a car off the lot or someone else's

Ford announced that due to the quake in Japan, the red colors and Satin Black would not be made for a while. The pigment used to make these colors comes from Japan, hence the delay. So if you ordered any color or red or Satin black your in for a delay.

It was a Kona Blue car, hence why I'm starting to wonder whats going on. I knew that red and black colors were impacted, hence my confusion

Deysha said the paint problem wasn't going to impact the Mustangs.

If you really do a have a build date a VIN has already been assigned, they just haven't communicated that with you.

I'd PM Deysha here on the board (FordCustSrvc) or call Ford's 800 number before you get too overly concerned something is off the track. They'll need your order number and your dealer number.

Good luck.

If you love your dog, get a microchip, they really work! My lost dog was back home in just under 24 hours thanks to the good citizens who called the county and the microchip that told animal control exactly where he lived.

Thanks 412, I'm just waiting to hear back about VIN/order number. I supposed the time factor plus the lack of communication is getting to me.

Hey pcx4487,

Message me with your dealer name and your order number and I can help you track it.
