2011 GT scratched headlight lenses

I searched and did not find what I was looking for.

I went to wipe off the headlights tonight. They were pretty dirty from driving in the rain a few days ago. I sprayed them with windshield washer fluid and wiped them clean with a clean microfiber towel. Once clean I noticed two things:

1. Light scratches on the lenses.
2. A large static build up from wiping.

I've never noticed this issue on my '98 CV, however those lenses have hazed and have been buffed a few times already.

First off, did I miss something when it comes to cleaning these headlight lenses? Are they really that sensitive to scratching? I did not press hard when wiping clean.

Second, is there a way to avoid the static build up? I don't think there would be any actual issue other than it attracting light debris.

All info is appreciated.

I noticed the same thing & ordered these last week.

3M Paint Protection Film - Headlights (10-12 GT, V6) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

I use anti-static detail spray on my car to minimize dust build up. Dust still does accumulate, but seems to at a slower rate, and the stuff shines up pretty good. I use it on glass, mirrors, & paint, everything except the black trim.

Pink Quick Detail Spray and Clay Lube with Carnauba

When I read somewhere that the HID lens assemblies are like $1000 each from Ford, I put some cleardefender film on mine; got it off EvilBay.

I'd like to add some protection to mine but I was thinking someone posted not too long ago that the HIDs got too hot for the film?

If you love your dog, get a microchip, they really work! My lost dog was back home in just under 24 hours thanks to the good citizens who called the county and the microchip that told animal control exactly where he lived.
