Ah, sometimes it works but sometimes it's pretty awful.
As far as using add ons and stripes, apparently Shelby thinks so? There is a point where "Ricieness" takes over, but from the stripped down "Bullitt" to the show car, I can appreciate most of them.
I agree with "sometimes its pretty awful", but it's in the eye of the beholder, unless it is so egregious that we all pretty much agree, like Mustangs with GM parts hung on them or 26" "Donk" wheels.

My car is completely clean; no stripes, no spoiler, no louvers or a hood scoop.

But I've added the CS front valance, the roush grille, pony emblem, aftermarket rims, and tinted the windows. I'd say that because my car doesn't have all the flash, it's vastly different from most of the Mustangs out there. In a way it's what makes it mine.

Mods don't matter.

Haha awesome picture evidence everyone. I argue with my brother all the time about stuff for my car. He says black wheels and axle back. Even on the axle back he is picky. And popping of any sorts gets his stamp of "rice"

Maybe its my age, but I don't really care for black wheels. EXCEPT, sometimes I will see them on the right car and think "Dam, that looks good!"
I don't like seeing mufflers at the back of Mustangs, but Ford didn't ask for my input on that one, so I had to handle it myself 2 Mustangs in a row.

IMO anything that is non-functional is a form of rice... potatoes, cheese, whatever you want to call it... I've seen a few mustangs with louvers, hood scoops, etc. and said WOW, nice car... in the end I wouldn't put it on my car. I'd rather save for the rims I want.

I think a clean mustang lowered a inch with the right wheels can't be beat...

A BM(ustang)W? Actually looks like some body working talent gone wrong, like the talented engraver who becomes a forger or the biologist that develops Ebola type viruses.

The AM mustang isn't rice, it's just overdone. That hood needs to go, the car looks so much better without it.

This is rice:

Maybe it's me but I don't mind decals in a tasteful fashion, descrete and not huge like some Sparco detal taking up half the door. That's just me. But body kits? No. You don't need side skirts or a new rear fender or a front end with crazy shapes shooting out of it and holes all around. That's what we have splitters and facias for. If you want vented body work, vent it, not trash it. Generally, if it's function, it's not rice...or potatoes. A few things like quater window louvers and such? Eh, I don't mind really. And NO euro lights!

You will get as many definitions for ricey as you get examples.

Ford is a big enabler selling bogus hood and side scoops but I've gotten used to them and no longer throw up a little in my mouth when I see them.

And to be honest, workmanship, art or tasteful uniqueness can be offsetting factors. I might like a custom molded in side scoop even if it was fake.

I kind of like my body kit, I don't like the cheap black plastic 2010+ Mustangs were clad with at bottom. As far as non-functional stuff, Mustangs have had that from the very beginning. Is it better if it is functional? Of course, but that would drive the price of Mustangs up. Front fascias(and especially splitters) on race cars usually work hand in hand with other aero improvements to move air more efficiently around and over the car.

You body kit looks quite functional though. Do I see some air dampers on your front fenders?

I guess I should clarify. Style is one thing. Stupidity is another.

Most non-functional mods, to me, are a bit "ricey," but I don't feel this way with ALL non-functional mods. The main things that get me are non-functional scoops, brightly painted STOCK calipers, fugly headlights/taillights, fake side vents, lots of chrome (accents, windshield wipers, etc.) and mirror tint, to name a few. As I've heard a few people say: Just because there's a part for your car doesn't mean that you should buy it. Stay classy, San Diego.
