Question Extended Warranties - Yay or Nay?

How many people out there got the extended warranty from Ford? I did when i bought my 11 GT back in February, and with the mods i have done and plan on doing i feel like i may be throwing my money away in the long run.

Now, I'm not creating a track monster that's going to be pushing 700HP... But I plan on doing a lot of things over the next few years (which, technically, is still considered "factory warranty" territory). I mean, if anything goes wrong while the car "breaks in" it'll happen in the 1st 3 years I think. I read a thread once where people were debating about mods voiding warranties, etc. etc... And i don't mean to be beat a dead horse, but we buy warranties for a piece of mind. And my piece of mind is telling me that I may be paying for a warranty that one, I'll never use, and 2, I won't be able to use because i did everything short of putting a supercharger on it.

So, I'm thinking of canceling the warranty and saving that $40 or so on each months payment. Thoughts? ...After all, I'll save money and not have to worry about voiding a warranty that i don't have.

If you're going to mod, I would absolutely get rid of that extended warranty.

You don't care when my car was built or what options it has.

Get rid of it if you are modding but...with the Mt82 issues..i will probably purchase one soon. (all i am going to do is probably exhaust/tint/rear black out panel etc.)

Yeah, i have an auto tranny in there. I've already lowered it, did the wheels/tires, and Bassani Axelback exhaust....I'm letting it break in some more until the new year. Where i plan on putting my BOSS intake on there, CAI, and 3.73 gears (maybe 4.10s)...after that I'll tackle the exhaust some more... a Bassani x-pipe and maybe longtubes... And of course, down the road, i plan on doing cams, more suspension work, etc...and by then I'm sure they will have the whole 351 stroked coyote thing figured out. :kooky:

Buying the first year of a new model, and tending to keep my vehicles 10-15 years, I went with the warranty.

I'd only go with an extended warranty if it was an exotic/foreign car. For most American made cars (including the Mustang), I skip the extra warranties.

I got it on my GTS and never used it, so I didn't get it on my '11 GT. It's a toss up: better to have an extended warranty and not need it than to need an extended warranty and not have it.

Exactly.... being that I have my third MT82 on order, I voted yes; I'm covered for 100K.

You call the dealer that sold you the car and speak to whoever the person was that sold the warranty to you. From what i hear, they will try everything to make you keep it. But in the end, they will refund the sum (possibly not the full amount depending on the terms). If the car was paid in full, you'll get a check in the mail. If you're making payments, the money gets credited to your account and your monthly payments get prorated.

It's a gamble... Only time I used an extended warranty was on a lap top.

Bought the extended warranty on a Ford Ranger, it paid for about $500 worth of claims, most of the problems came after the warranty expired.

If you do any modifications, expect to have most warranty claims denied.
