I didn't express a Yes/No opinion in my first reply, but that was my first thought exactly. Only four grand depreciation over two model years? That ain't that bad. And adspru did the math: $222/mo for the 18 months the OP has had the car. Hell, you can't lease a Corolla for that.

But having said that, I personally wouldn't do it without a compelling reason. The switch to a manual trans, which I did mention in my first reply, might be that reason. Or maybe it's the styling. I myself would need more than either ... I'd have to be upgrading from a base to a Premium, or from a V6 to a GT, or a GT to a Boss, or getting a Brembo car ... SOMEthing. Yes he would be taking 26K miles off the odometer but that many miles on a modern vehicle are nothing. If the car has been cared for at all, it's still practically new.

So, I have to agree that it seems silly to lose four grand and end up with essentially the same car. It would actually make more sense if he were trading in the Mustang on a Camaro or Challenger. We might not agree with the choice of vehicle, but we would better understand the reason.

Don't let other people spend or not spend your money for you. Its great to ask for advice, but in the end it is YOUR choice.

As someone said previously to some people its not worth it, others it is.

I think the options you are gaining will give the new car a better resale value so there is always that.

so Like I said before... If you can swing the extra on your payments, and you think you will enjoy the new car (who doesnt like getting new cars?) then Go for it.

Personally I dont think its that bad of depreciation for a 2 year old vehicle. Sounds like they aren't trying to rape you.
I agree. Its only $4k and you get a new car.

To the OP if your someone that doesn't mod your car and you like the latest and greatest then I would say it might be worth your time. On the flipside if you knew when you bought the 2011 you wanted to keep it and already invested about 5-6k into it to make it a corvette beater then why start from scratch again just to change the color and get a face lift?

I would love to get a deep impact or grabber blue 2013 GT Track Pack though if for some reason some drunk ran into my car while while it was parked someplace.

I believe the OP is talk about $4,000 difference in PAYMENTS.

Here is what you need to consider:

1. Original purchase price of current car
2. Trade in allowance from dealer for current car
3. Loan payoff (is any) of current car
4. Interest rate/term on original loan
5. Interest rate/term on new loan

With that information, you can accurately determine how much it will cost you. When dealers start negotiating in terms of monthly payments, you can really get hosed.

I completely understand and agree; it's always good for the OP to see both sides of the argument. That's what this forum is all about. If it helps him come to an intelligent decision then it's just that much better.

Well, my 2011 is paid for, and the $4,000 is my cost after trade-in, tax and fees. Additionally it's not going to finance. I'm wondering if I'll be able to get $12,000+ on my 2011 with close to 90,000 miles when 2016 comes around....

Then it's simple. Is the dealer giving you a fair price on the trade and charging you a reasonable price for the new car?

Well, here's my issue. I don't know if they're able to go any lower?

I got my Auto with appearance package for $20,500 but that was a few months before the 2012 came out

They're offering me $20,700 for a 2013 manual with no appearance package, but they're just hitting the showroom floor. Has anyone seen the manuals be sold for under $20,000?

Does that sound like a good deal to you guys? Should I jump on it or just keep my car?

Probably one of the worst idea ever, as a personal note I would never trade my 2011 for a 2013, never.
You wanna do something? Spend these $4000 in your Mustang, to make it even better.

Well, that might be why it's $4000 OOP :kooky:

I would never consider a lateral (backwards?) move like that unless I was unloading a lemon... Even if I liked the 13 better.. Bad economics

The only possible scenario where this is a good idea for you is upgrading to a GT. You could put a couple thousand into mods on your current Stang and still have some $$$ left over versus getting a '13.
