Cool! That was very interesting, thanks for posting this. Amazing he tried starting his own town in the Amazon! Also interesting to see some Edison influence there.

There is so much about Henry. In 1904 he set the world speed record at 97 mph. He and Edison and Harvey Firestone use to go camping a lot in the mountains of NY. In early 20's Pres Harding came out to join them. Site above mentions Leland being dismissed. He went on to found Cadiallic and develop the one cylinder for the Oldsmoble. Later he founded Lincoln and Ford bought him out. Them guys got so inter-twined. Leland got hooked up with Sloan and Kettering (Cancer research named for them) , one of them developed the "self starter" in 1912. Also founded Delco (Dayton Electric Company). They mention charcoal - that's where Kingsford charcoal came from. Henrys grandson married H. Firestones granddaughter. Henrys estate was named Fairlane, hince the naming of that car line.

He was also the first foreigner to receive the Nazi Iron Cross from Hitler himself.

Yeah...they tend to overlook that :p

And the "Henry Ford," as in the museum, is to me one of the most fun places in the world. When a friend and I were there a few years ago we were able to very briefly chat with a curator who told us that Henry was so prolific in his acquisitions that they are still to this day cataloging items he bought! That's at least 65 or more years ago! Can you imagine???

Yes, there are definitely some unpleasant things too. The A&E Biography gives a pretty well-rounded portrait.

If you love your dog, get a microchip, they really work! My lost dog was back home in just under 24 hours thanks to the good citizens who called the county and the microchip that told animal control exactly where he lived.

Hitler was a Ford fan? How could that be?

All this time I thought he and his engineers were deep in the Führerbunker doing early product planning for Government Motors' Chevy division...
