The CAI and the exhaust note

Does the CAI affect the car's exhaust note? I am asking because whenever I put a little pressure on the gas, the CAI does its moaning which can be heard coming from the front of the car and kinda drowns out everything else. However, this afternoon on the freeway I gave it some gas as I was going thru an underpass. My windows were partially down and I was a tad surprised by what I heard as the sound bounced off the structures. The sound was basically a hearty roar which sounded like the exhaust was contributing a significant amount. That got me to wondering if the effect of the CAI on the breathing of the engine could also affect the exhaust note.

I'm still on the fence as to whether I want to shell out for the Borla Touring. My experience with the sound of the car this afternoon makes me wonder if I'm getting the sound I want without realizing it.
