This morning I brought my '14 GT Premium in to the dealer so a Ford tech could ride with me and listen to the occasional "clacking, clunking" noises my car makes when I shift. Most times the car is completely devoid of these noises BTW. When I posted about this issue on this forum, forum members indicated the noises were normal and happened in their cars too. They were right. Before we went for a drive the tech said to me, "I know exactly what noises concern you..." The noises were absent for most of our drive (of course) but the car did make them a couple of times, and he heard them. Apparently the noises are normal and are of no concern, which is an enormous relief to me.
The tech, in addition to being a mechanic, is a Mustang enthusiast, and made some suggestions:
1.) Replace the stock shifter, which he said was garbage.
2.) Change the engine oil at 4,500 miles with Mobil 1.
3.) Also at 4,500 miles replace the transmission oil with Mobil One transmission oil.
He said it will make a big difference shifting.
4.) Don't wind out the engine until 1,000 miles (I have 577 miles on it now). Also, vary the engine speed, not cruising at one speed for a long time, during the first 1,000 miles. He said the engines are made to tight tolerances.
He said the transmission used to have synchro issues, on 2nd and 3rd gear I believe, but they were corrected with the '13 GT.
I want to once again thank Deysha who was a great help with this issue. We are so lucky she is "out there" assisting with our concerns. Thank you Deysha!
